Would anybody be interested in a weekly photo challenge about guns?
I am doing a weekly challenge that one of my pro friends is running. She posts up a theme for the week and then you have to shoot a photo to illustrate that theme.
I was thinking that it would be cool to do something here but have it gun themed. I would need some help coming up with ideas etc for each week.
Post up if you would consider doing this if i got it rolling.
I would be interested, even if it weren't solely about guns.

Cool, yeah it doesn't have to be a gun shot every week it can be a lot looser. I will plan on starting a post at the end of this week and see how many people will join on. I found with the one I am doing now I have learned a lot by pushing myself more conceptually. I think it would be a good way to get some life in this forum and it really only takes an hour or so depending on the complexity of the shots.
Ill partake
Wish I had guns to photograph...

Just the other day, I was thinking about starting a thread just like this.
I would be up for a weekly themed photo thread. Moreso, if it wasn't limited to guns. That could get tough to come up with themes and subjects.
ETA: If need be, I could float some ideas for themes.
Cool. I have an idea for this week. I will try to keep the prompts geared so that if you want to use guns you can but you don't have to at least for the majority of them. I am thinking launch every Thursday Night.
I'd be interested, although I may not be able to participate every time.
Love the idea if for no other reason than to force myself to shoot more than birthdays and thunderstorms.
I'd be interested if it's more than guns. When I'm shooting is one of the few times I leave the camera in the car.
...oh, and I'm in, BTW.
Good deal,
I will get something together and post it up in a new thread on Thursday Night. I will make it loose enough so that it doesn't require weapons.
I'm interested as well. But probably won't do much in the way of gun photos.
I'm in.

I've been real busy lately, but I'll try to participate whenever I can.

Have you seen his portraits?

IMHO some of us (well, maybe just me) are going to be out-classed regardless. There's more
than a couple people here with some real skill/ talent. It'll just give me another
"excuse" to get out and shoot. I'm more into these things for the fun
factor and exchanging images/ thoughts with other hobbyists and
photographers. Not interested in "winning" - just having fun. But
that's just me, so YMMV.

Yeah it is not at all about winning. It is great for learning and developing skills. Seeing how others use their creativity to attack a common concept. No prizes, No stress just your interpretation of the theme using your abilities and equipment the best you can. The one I am doing now I think we are in our 5th week and it is really interesting to see the progression of everybody involved.
I think there is going to be some really interesting work that will come out of this.

I know my post processing skills, and to a smaller amount my composition and creativity, have shown improvement since I started participating in challenges and memes over at the Cafe. Wouldn't mind more of the same here.
I agree about the potential for some interesting imagery.
I'm in!

...and just like that, I'm boned.

I'm interested. I use my 7D all the time when I am at the range/cabin shooting.
Me and my AKS-74.Taken with a 7D and processed in Lightroom.

You really wanted the picture to look like that?

Face is a little soft, but otherwise I don't know that it deserves an unsolicited critique...

Hey douche! I was just showing my interest in this topic and wanted to share some of my photos.

I thought it was a decent shot, not everybody likes depth of view like that. (its a them problem, not a you problem)
A couple of uppers built recently.
The retro-modern was going to get a set of triangle handguards, but since I picked up a 604 upper last week it will likely get a suppressor mount shortly.
Camera is my Olympus SP-610UZ 14mp and a 500w halo light.
You're a bit over exposed on those first two. You can set the exposure manually on that camera right? Need to give it another stop or two down.
Love the middle one. Sweet little sbr!
Next challenge?

We both take hits of nitroglycerin every sixty seconds and if you can finish fapping before you pass out, you win.
Sorry guys I am flat out for the next few days. Can someone else post a challenge for this week.

I have a decent topic idea and a submission to kick it off. I'll just copy out your rules if that is OK.

Go for it!

First try, please let me know how I can make it better or what I shouldn't be doing. I should have cleaned the finger prints off the slide. I just played with the Lightroom settings a little bit...
edit for another...

Others could give you much better advice than me but...
The first picture looks a bit desaturated to me. And they both look soft, do you have a high resolution version? The trigger in the second picture (on my monitor at least) looks blown out.
Good job though, especially the second one. If you have a link to higher resolution I could say more.
Oh, exif data would be helpful as well.
ETA: I messed with it really quick in ColorFX, sharpened, changed the color cast and boosted the contrast... couldn't do anything about the blown out areas or the low resolution, and I probably upped the contrast too much, but you get the idea.

Why type of metering are you using on your camera (for the first shot at least)? Try changing it to spot metering, so the camera doesn't pick up so much white and overexpose the photo. The second one is better, and closer to what you should be going for, imo.
Neither photo is extremely sharp, either. You may want to play around with your focus points and depth of field to sharpen them up a bit more.
Thanks guys! Exactly what I was looking for. Here is the info and I am going to try and import another into photo bucket with a direct link...

I was using center weighted metering. I will try with spot metering and see how it goes, THANKS!!!
I know a little about the focus points but I do not know how to play with the depth of field.
It looks like photobucket limits the resolution of your uploads, I use Flickr, but you have to pay to get full resolution uploads there.

Use something better than Photobucket for hosting high quality pictures, I use flicker. Edit: Too slow...
Question on your pictures, are you using a tripod?
Why is your ISO so high on the first picture?
I am using a tripod. My ISO is high only because I'm a noob and when I picked out the best pictures I took, that one was better than the others (thanks for pointing that out. I will for sure keep an eye on the ISO). I am trying to learn and I can't seem to get the settings down just right. I made two diffusors and using a 500 watt and 250 watt shop lamp. The guns are sitting directly on white poster board and I have a white foam board under the camera leaning up against the tripod. In the first picture above the gun was angled up off the ground with a wood pencil sharpener. The second picture above the gun was laying flat on the ground. I was playing around in Lightroom and trying to get the shadow completely gone since I can't figure out how everyone else takes perfect pictures with no shadows.
I tried with my Colt just now and it seems to be harder with the reflections (the hammer area looks like crap), and I still have a shadow...
I will look into Flickr and if its not too much then I will sign up. But, then again, if its going to help me learn letting people actually see the resolution then it's probably worth it.
