Lemme get this out of the way first:
I've been having problems with my internet connection lately. Usually I have these kinds of problems during the heavy storm season, but the weather's been nice the last couple of weeks, so I dunno what's going on. Here's my network stats:
Modem: Bellsouth DSL Proline modem (black with 5 lights)
Router: SMC Draft N Wireless SMCWGBR14-N
When the connection gets dropped, I get the unending loading animation in my browser. Eventually, I'll get the "server taking too long to respond" page. During the storm season, its definitely something with the lines outside because I can access my modem's diagnostic page through the gateway IP address.
The problems I've been having lately are different. I'm not able to access any page at all. I can't access the gateway page, or my router's local IP address. The only thing that gets everything working again is unplugging the router. This happens several times a day. I think its happened 5 or 6 times today. Shit it just happened while I was writing this post. That's 3 times within the last 25 minutes! WTF this is pissing me off!
Last night the internet went down about an hour before I went to sleep. I didn't reset the router to see if it would fix itself by the morning. It didn't. This has been going on several times a day for about a week now. What could be the source of my problem? Is my router going bad? We've only had it about a year.
you have clearly described a bad router when with them to see if its under warranty.
one other thing you can do is hardware your modem to your computer to see if your connection still drops
Bypass the router and cat5 directly into the modem and see what happens. You'll lose your firewall so don't do it forever.
