What drinks like Crown but isn't Crown?

Going to pick my dad up his traditional bottle of Crown for Christmas today but I'm wondering if he wouldn't like something different.

He loves crown with a passion, so is there anything comparable or should I stick with the genuine article?

Get him what he likes. That being said, if you can get Pendleton in your area, it's pretty good swill!

Is there an echo in here???
Serious case if deja vu going in....

Ya nut!!!

If he likes Crown, Get Him Crown!
He's not your neighbor buddy that jumps from brand to brand.
He is set in his ways and likes what he likes.

Stepping off the podium now....
Go forth and Crown him.

The Echo has spoken.

There's always the top shelf Crown.. CR Black, and there's another one who's name escapes me now.
While I fall on the side of get him what he likes, he may also enjoy Sazerac Rye

That CR Black is very sweet...too sweet for lots of Crown drinkers.

I went through this very thing for my FIL. I bought him a bottle of Crown Reserve. The Reserve is blended from handpicked casks (color, flavor, aroma), is substantially improved over regular Crown, and yet won't break the bank. I think a 5th cost me $47.

Crown XR, very smooth, blended from what barrels they could salvage from the burned down waterloo distillery.
Runs between $120 to $200 a bottle (5th? i think) if you can find it. Cheapest I've bought was at Spec's Liquor.
Don't know how much you wanted to spend, just throwing it out there.

I bought him this several years ago when they released it. I'd be real surprised if you could even find any.

I don't care for blended whiskeys, but even I thought it was pretty damn good.

Get him a bottle of the reserve. I don't even drink the regular after trying it. You can give him a bottle of kentucky dale first as a joke.

Forty Creek is a better Canadian Whiskey than Crown, try that.

I really like Crown Cask 16 and would drink it more except for the price. Might make a nice gift though. Crown Reserve is also good.

Woodford Reserve is real good for the price and it's smooth.

Crown.

Been down this road myself. The old man drinks johnnie red...period.

I have gotten expensive single malts, all the colors of johnny even the blue but red is what he likes.
He is 75, still runs a garage door manufacturing co & works 10 hrs a day. You cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Accept it

I wouldn't even use red as a mixer

Funny how we all have different tastes

Guys.....Slavac took it all in and made his purchase.
He is enroute for his visit now.

Feel free to continue to debate the issue but he is not listening any more.....but we still will let him play out reindeer games.

He could have at least let us know what he got. Any who hope he has a safe trip. The Holiday crazy driver disease is worse than last year.

Unless he got something along the way, he didn't get him any alcohol... at least not yet. And the ~800 mi. trip up here wasn't too bad on Monday, so with luck the rest of his trip of almost the same length will go well today (it's been okay so far).

Hell I had to stop and get a small bottle for myself. Thinking about giving it to the boss for his birthday and Christmas present.

Sorry for the lack of response guys. I drove home to TX (no internet access) and just got back to STL a few minutes ago. I went with a regular (large) bottle of crown and he seemed tickled pink.

Going to get a few of these for him to try out later on though, I like the suggestions.
