Just got back from putting my dog down
<––––- I rescued Jasper 4 years ago at approximately age two. He has had seizures for a few years, but 72 hours ago he started showing lethargy, didn't want to eat (NEVER saw that before). I took him to the vet's office and found out that he had autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Basically, his immune system was attacking his red blood cells and his kidneys couldn't take it. Today, his urine was brick red with blood.
I have to admit, I have been a total mess, but I couldn't let Jasper continue to suffer. This isn't what I wanted for Christmas.

Today, before leaving for the vet (me trying to keep a poker face)
before being put down:

Sorry for your loss.
Silver lining is now you have room to rescue another poor doggy who badly needs a home and someone to love.
Sorry about your friend.

Sorry for your loss. there is no finer a man then the dog
Prayers out to you and Jasper. Stay Strong.
I've had to do that to two dogs in two years... both Rotts (family pets, both).
I feel your pain... and I'm sorry.

So sorry for your loss.
I'm sorry you had to do that; especially over the holidays. You'll feel better. Hang tough.

i put my dog down a month ago, I feel your pain. sorry.
Sorry to hear the news

My thoughts are with you I had to put my 14yr old lab and hunting partner down two months ago its not an easy thing to do.
I know the pain. So sorry to hear..
sorry to hear. I lost both my dogs last year. But now you have room to adopt another dog in need like another poster said.
Thanks for the support, everyone. I'm going to be interviewing for a job next month that requires lots of travel. The job I find will determine whether or not I get a dog. Of course, I would like to get another dog asap.
Very sorry for the loss of your sidekick Jasper. I'll be keeping him, yourself and his family and friends in my prayers.
May that handsome fella rest in peace, and again, very sorry for the loss, many of us here can certainly relate to what you're going through, and it makes you question finding another four legged friend, give it some time.
Very sorry for your loss.

Thank you for that. I like it.
Sorry for your loss. Our vet gave us that Rainbow Bridge when we had to put our beagle, Mabel, down last Christmas. I still get teary eyed if I read it
Sorry man.

Been where you are - I understand your pain. Sorry. I for one firmly believe in the Rainbow Bridge.
Once again, thanks for the support, and for being civil. When I posted this thread, I was thinking "please don't let this be like GD" (though I think the mods would lockout anyone wanting to trample on my pain). I've heard the best way to get over the loss of a dog is to rescue another one, but right now I'm waiting to see what job I get. In the meantime, I'm playing with my friend's dogs

So sorry for your loss.

I am sorry for your loss. I know the pain all to well. This summer I lost my buddy when she got hit by a car. She was the best coon hound ever. It hurts
for a while, but gets better with time. I now have a new dog and it helped ease the pain a bit. Sad part is my new dog acts just like the old hound and
reminds me of her every day in a good way though.
Sorry for your loss OP.
Sorry for your loss
Man, I really need to stop clicking on these threads when I am at work.....
I had to put one of my dogs down about a month ago, I know what you're going through.
It helps to remember the good times, what made them special. What helped a b little bit for me is I also had a second dog that I have become even closer with than I previously thought possible.
Sorry for your loss.....we had to do the same thing with our little friend earlier this year. I know what you are going through.

Sorry for your loss . These thread make be cower in fear. Because as a human I have a longer life span then my puppy and one day it will be my turn. And that scares the hell out of me. But I'm so sorry for your loss.
What a cute face. He was your best friend and you were a good friend and a responsible person to not let him suffer. Sorry for your loss.
Sorry to hear about your buddy. It's always hard.
This isn't GD friend. We've all been through it and know how badly it sucks. I'm sorry for the loss of your buddy.
Once again, I truly appreciate the support here on Arfcom. I hope to get a job soon, so I know whether or not I can adopt a new four-legged friend.
It never gets any easier. I still miss my last dog every single day and while my new puppy patches my heart to some extent, no two are ever the "same".
Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss.
