I was thinking about this today at work.

What is you plan if you can not make it back home to get your gear?

I keep a basic GHB in my car with a bit of food, basic first aid, folding entrenching tool (comes in really handy in the winter), flashlights, knives and such. I can't bring myself to leave a firearm in the car unattended and can't carry at work so I would be behind the 8-ball trying to get home. The other problem for me is that I live in a city so I would most likely be going into a bad situation trying to get home. If I could get in and out quickly though my chances of getting back out of the city would get a lot better in a hurry.

ETA: The GHB thread on here has me thinking of some ways to improve what I carry in my own. As I said mine is pretty basic right now, I'm only a half-assed survivalist at best, but I'm learning...

I have enough "things" in all my vehicles to make it home.

Since I have a bit of a haul for my commute I always carry a minumum of my pistol, BOB, and most of the time my SKS. I dont worry about trying to be all tactical and how to conceal a rifle. If I have to pull it out, I want everyone to know they better give me a wide path.

Yea, no problems here. Have my EDC sidearm (either a Kimber Solo or a Smith J-frame depending on clothing) on me at work, plus an extra Glock 19 plus ammo "close". More magazines/ammo for everything in the truck. Sometimes I throw my CMMG M-7 AR pistol in a 5.11 discrete case plus mags in the truck as well. Just depends on what I fell like.

I think about this too when I have to leave my knife and gun at home for work or just about anything else i do because of work rules and the lame ccw nazi's in my county.

I would try to arm myself with whatever I could find and make a bee line for the homestead, my work is only a few miles away and I know all the available routes to get there, I think I could make it if shit goes down, but even so I may start putting together a little kit for the car just in case.

I've always got my ccw and edc knife on me at all times. If i'm able to get to my car, then the zeds won't have a chance and i'll make it the 4 miles home.

Two words for you; Hi-Point.

Cheap guns were made for the "just in case" spot.

And if you run out of ammo............ that MOFO IS A MELEE WEAPON!

One of the people I have taught to shoot bought one against "expert advise" (mine) but if you really work the trigger and go slow it's pretty accurate but damn that trigger is bitch.

It seems like people in this state, as the general public, are conditioned through the generations to see guns as taboo horrible baby killers. This and the "if you see something suspicious, call the police" attitude is what worries me and what makes it important to be careful what you say until that day comes.

Work, no Biggie, at home best case scenario. What worries me is when I'm traveling, I pack very light when flying. About the most dangerous item I have on me when traveling is my Surefire E2D - quite formidable but not for the z-poc.

While we don't have concealed carry yet, (fingers crossed, rain dance, rubbing 4 leaf clovers), outside of Cook county is not as close to Kalifornia laws as most think.

We can carry our firearms in a lockable case (doesn't HAVE to be locked, but lockable....I will give you that stupid law), and the mags can be in the same case loaded as long as they are not in the gun. Silly, yes, but it does allow for a decent level of preparedness.

See my GHB thread.

Oh I know the law you are talking about... I used to carry a printed version with me wherever I went but I can't find it. I'll have to print another. I think it is hot linked at the IL carry website if I am not mistaken.

Just replaced my 9mm Px4 carry pistol with a .45 ACP Px4. It's always with me. I need to get a shoulder rig and 2 more mags though. My truck is < 50' away and my house is under 10 minutes doing ~35mph. If it's Z-Day then I won't be doing 35mph.

If I'm working, I'll have my duty pistol (Glock 22). If I'm not, I've got a 1st aid kit and a spade in the back of the truck. The town's only a half mile across anyways.

I work about ten minuets from home so the drive home wouldn't take long. In my truck I have the basics, food, water, medical and a weapon.

I live and work in the city. I can't have weapons in my car at work. All I have is an asp. I'm screwed. If I'm at home I could hole up in my apt for a while, but I'm still screwed in the long run. I have to bug back to kansas which is 12 hours and 2.5 tanks of gas.

How about some pictures of the bag and your AR pistol
been thinking of doing that with my 9mm sbr

I work in an ER, I could have my plate carrier on, my sbr, both side arms and a couple of similarly armed coworkers and I am still probably not going to make it out alive.

I live in a barracks about a mile from one of the many armories on base and about 2 more miles from the base ammo dumpand I work about 2 miles from where I live. I think I'd be alright

my plan would be to stay ahead of that slower guy behind me. :)

IF this stuff ever happens, we are all screwed, and luck more than skill or preps will help you survive.

Meh, work at a trucking company about a mile from my home. There are at least 4 guns in this office, not counting what's in vehicles. We have a fully functioning shop with plenty of steel/welders/torches. Probably 40 gallons of water, quite a bit of food in the freezers. Also, like I said, I'm a mile from home, 0.2 miles if you go as the crow flies.

I keep a XD 40 on me so I will be armed , but not nearly enough . I Plan to avoid people and conflicts as 11rds is farting in the wind during a ZA. There is a place and time window however small in which I think I can acquire armored transport then I can proceed the 22miles to home.

My commute is about 20 miles, over a bridge/tunnel, or I can go the long way nearly 30 miles. Or I suppose I could try and swim 15 miles ...

I have a GHB, but no personal weapons in my workspace. Pocket knife and 24" crowbar. Plus a pair of running shoes.
