M1 carbine
M1 carbine ultimate zombie defense weapon more power than a pistol, more reach than a pistol, light enough that you won't leave it behind.
Discus.
Years ago when mil-surplus ammo was fairly common yes....now-a-days....not so much. I own 2 myself and while I would take 1 in a bug out with the ammo I have on hand now (500 rds) I know it would be the 1st weapon I'd have to abandon after time due to lack of ammo.
A carbine lenght AR-15 is the same lenght as a normal wood stocked M-1 carbine ....
I would say a folding stock M-1 Carbine would be better than just a pistol but then you still have the ammo issue....I'd rather carry a pistol chambered in one of the more common modern calibers...9mm. 40 or 45 ACP

I bought my dad one years ago when ammo was cheap and plentiful. Now that shit is out-fucking-rageous. He still loves his carbine though.
I would be more apt to agree if ammo and parts were more common.....
now the AR is king of the ring. With 223 being common and parts easy to locate, M1 vs AR in zed land, for me, is a no brainier
There is a few pistols in that caliber. But like they said ammo is getting up there. But if you have a lot or a lot of money and that's what ya want. Why not
I love the M1 Carbine and I really want one someday. The sound it makes when shooting is so cool and it's a lot of fun.
Personally, I will stick with AR's because they can be made light enough and I can find ammo, mags, and parts easier but an M1 is not to be laughed at for a zombie defense gun .
I love the M1 carbine and think it's a shame about the ammunition. To me there is just something about that size and style of rifle that makes them extremely comfortable to shoot. I think a PPSH 41 would be perfect for zombies.

Again, ammo issues come into play I would say. Add to that unless you've cornered the market on mag's those might be scarce post zombie world. Better off with a AK if you can snag one full auto. For a SMG I'd try and snag a 9mm of some type if I can find one....common ammo type for pistols I already own.
Bottom line in the 21st century we're lucky.....we have access the firearms designs that a WWII infantry soldier could only dream of till late in the war.
I know...I'm no fun as a armorer

The AR 15 outperforms the carbine in everything but weight. Not to mention better sights, easier to find parts, easier to modify, ammo is far less expensive, magazines are more relibale and less expensive(P Mags),and optics are far easier to attach.
A reliable M1 carbine is a good choice for SHTF/Z day, but unless weight is your primary concern there are better choices.
.
I have three of the little M1 Carbines, one a folding stock Inland. All are excellent shooters. Dead nuts reliable, and low recoil. Accurate enough for head shots out to 100 yards with the iron sights.
Ammo is spendy, but if you shop carefully, you can stock up without breaking the bank. I have somewhere around 5K rounds stashed around, after years of accumulating.
I have always felt that the .30 carbine is just about perfect as a Zombie killer. Attach the bayonet, and it becomes even more versatile

.
I have one as a back up or as a rifle my girlfriend can handle easily. It's light and fun to shoot and will get the job done for sure. My primary though is my Saiga AK in 7.62x39
I loved my m1 carbine. But ammo is expensive, even with hand loading the ammo is still too much.
I traded my universal M1 w/800 rounds for a barely used 01 'Bushmaster XM-15 couldn't be happier.
The AR is cheaper to shoot and it will shoot longer ranges more accurately.
I love my M1 carbine, it is like shooting a .22 but with the power of a rifled 9mm. If zombies come im taking the M1 along with my AR and AK. I will most likely take all my weapons if i have the time. Never know who you might run into who will also need a weapon. The more armed the better.
Gotta love the M1
I love my M1 carbine as well.
When I got it, I was concerned because of a little play of the barrel/receiver in the wood stock (mine is a Bavarian Forest Police marked WW2 dated carbine), but I was pleasantly surprised. The accuracy is just ridiculously good.
Ammo is harder to come by, but for my wife for example, it is a great shooter. No recoil, not as heavy as an AR, shoots accurate, nice easy to acquire sites - she loves it.

You should get her a Mini-14 then!
