He has also been a reserve officer in Los Angeles and Miami. I spent some time with him in Orlando while I was working a special detail years ago, he's a really good guy.

I thought mine was nice.. Got it for Christmas. It has a blue stone instead of red but I had to send it back to be redone because it had some defects.

I've only been raised a year now and I've never heard that term used before. I thought it might be a PH term because they use terms here in MS that Masons don't (in my short experience) like "traveling man".

we use traveling man in our state. its pretty common to hear one mason refer to himself as a traveling man to another while in company of profanes. We use the word "work" in lodge quite a bit, but never have I heard it reffered to as my profession, maybee thats a PH thing.

We use both work and profession in Lodge.

The SW probably uses it FC in most of your jurisdictions too.

In my locale, we use Traveling Man, Traveler, and in some cases we also use the term Professional.

In my case, this month I finally recieved both my State and National Registrations as a fully licensed Professional Landscape Architect. So I literally DO work within the fields of Design, Development, and Building trades... I'm surprised by how often I meet Brothers and Fellows in my industry.

ETA: When some brothers see my ring SR ring, they ask if I'm a Perfect Elu.

I've communicated with Slayer about this "term/concept". Can someone please explain this to me? Fellows? What does this mean? I remember it in EA but this is another term I haven't heard used in my neck of the woods.

the official definition...

FELLOW

In Anglo Saxon lagu (from which we have "law") meant that which was permanently ordered, fixed, set; fe meant property; fela suggested properties set together, in other words, a partnership. From this we have "fellow," a companion, mate, partner, an equal, a peer. A man became a "fellow" in a Medieval guild or corporation when admitted a member on the same terms as all others, sharing equally in the duties, rights, and privileges. In Operative Masonry, in order to be a fellow a man had to be a Master Mason, in the sense of having passed through his apprenticeship, so that Masters were fellows and fellows were Masters. Prior to about 1740 "Fellow of the Craft" and "Master Mason" referred to the same grade or degree, but at about that year a new division in ranking was made, and "Fellow Craft" was the name given to the Second Degree in the new system, Master Mason to the Third.

i have heard and been told others.

a fellow may be an equal but may not be a brother.

So, if a Brother was travling through AL and needed help with a car repair you would help him because he is a Mason but he isn't your Brother but a Fellow?

no.

in my mind a brother is a man who has done the work earned the title and lives the philosophy. a fellow is a man has done the work to earn the title, but either doesn't comprehend what he was taught or has ignored it. More or less a mason in title only. Both are masons, both i would not hesitate to aid.

this is MY opinion on the terms.

I have heard it said "Freemasonry makes good men better but not all Freemasons are good men". I personally know a few masons that I would consider good men.

we do our best to vet people that apply. we are human, some slip through. i have met men here i don't care for and i sure the feeling is mutual. that said i have zero doubt any of them would come to my aid if needed and i would be there for them without a second thought.

+1 As for me I would aid those Brothers if they were in need. So you wouldn't know a "Brother" from a "Fellow" until you get to know them? Hope I'm not being simple but I am new in my "travels".

all i need to know is he is a mason. if he needs help i am obligated to do so. my duty is to uphold MY obligations.

So Slayer, when you meet a mason you have to get to know him befor you know if he is a Brother or Fellow?
