US Drone launch sites revealed through FOIA
There are at least 63 active drone sites around the U.S, federal authorities have been forced to reveal following a landmark Freedom of Information lawsuit.
The unmanned planes – some of which may have been designed to kill terror suspects – are being launched from locations in 20 states.

this is total BS.. I'm sure they are just used for "security"

1rst post wins again.
I'm a little confused how it's total BS...about half of those locations are places with a military base where they do training in preparation for operations overseas. The rest are either colleges or businesses where they do test and development in order to sell them to the military. Truthfully I'm surprised that number is so low!
i dont think people realize how big drones actually are.
eta- not talking about op or really anyone one in particular. i just mean in general.

they come in all different sizes.
yes, from small to big like the one you showed
Cool, there is one like two miles from my house

Drones are the way of the future. Get over yourself if you think they aren't. Cheaper safer and quieter to fly than a fixed or rotary winged ISR platform. If you are worried just buy more tinfoil.
Oh noes the drones are gonna watch me cut my grass!
That's a quarter the weight of an MQ-9, btw. The overwhelming majority of these COAs are for SUAS (Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems) such as the hand launched stuff that USAF security forces use. You guys should put your tinfoil hats on so that RPA operators can't read your brainwaves.
According to CNN you just need a .50BMG. They'll take down a helicopter. And btw, hitting an aerial target is much, much harder than most people think. Bird hunting is nothing like shooting aircraft.
The ones used by some LEO agencies aren't. However, they are using Predators for some LE missions now..... One has to wonder why a fucking predator is being used for this purpose at a time when UAV's are in such short supply in our current commitments overseas.
My big question is: At what point do we have a Posse Commitatus violation? Clearly, Barney Fife isn't flying and maintaining these aircraft.
I have this about 3 miles from my house. I don't know what all is on it but I'm sure it puts whatever a drone could carry to shame.
It's Fat Albert!

Why not? It isn't the military doing that either. Civilian contractors would do both.
I could be wrong but I doubt I have to worry about drones flying over my house.
It's F-18s falling out of the sky I have to worry about.

Nice
The map show's like 5 location's here & around Arlington county Va.
Better rethink my strategy for sneaking around the yard & sun bathing

Guess I better stop pissing off the back deck.

Live near the border do ya?

Bet the sensor package is similar to a drone package.
Microwave emitter - fry all the electronics, and doesn't leave a trace as to where it came from.
Granted, you have to get awfully close to do that.
Failing that, a .50 BMG through the motor will keep it from working.
"Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service Texas A&M University Corpus Christi"
I've seen this one, they use it to evaluate cotton crops. It has maybe a 7' wingspan.
Obviously the end is near.

I love my job!

Hell..a 50 bmg round will down the space shuttle....didn't you know that?
Where did I put my Reynolds.

Frying the electronics and causing it crash in your front yard will give them a pretty good idea who did it, just sayin.

Exactly the might single shot .50 BMG super sniper rifle can take out satellites a drone should be easy!

Gadsden, AL PD?

Im intrested to see what exactly they do with these. I can imagine legitimate uses for drones stateside. Search and rescue, large event security, boarder security. ok....
but you know they will end up using them to write tickets...

very true, but I believe you missed the part where I said "you have to get awfully close to do that." Meaning, <15 feet. AFAIK, we can't beam high powered focused microwaves at a target with the intent to kill the electronics.
I could be wrong though
I know for a fact that there are some locations not listed on that map.
Won't say more.

I believe it. Doesn't really concern me any, but I believe it.

Haha, yeah, no shit! One of those is about quarter-mile from me.

I launch them from my backyard,

It won't be long until Allen Fieldhouse will be destroyed by automoted aerial bombardment.

There's a growing sentiment in engineering circles who would debate your assumptions vigorously.

What are their objections? I just got into the whole RC thing.
I've heard rumblings about the FCC needing to get involved eventually, due to the consequences and increased risks of interference when you start getting a lot of drones in the sky.

Not all that much cheaper, especially when you start considering loss rates.

We go to New Orleans to get destroyed by aerial bombardment.
Since i'm working in the MQ-9 program at Creech do I get to wear the tinfoil? Or am I the evil overlord, bent on stealing your secrets?
Confusing
Edit––Nevermind, according to the map we're not here.

You hate American privacy and are part of the New World Order's plan to take pictures of me while I mow the lawn.

"Plan on taking pictures of you mowing the lawn" we would never do that, and by the way your overwatering the front yard and wear sunscreen you look a little burnt.

This is why I welcome our new flying overlords. Always watching out for me.
