So I don't pay to much attention to my emails. But I do glance thru them every other day or so.
But a couple of Weeks ago I had some problems with my internet connection. so Tonight I finally got around to checking them.
In one from my friends sister dated the 8th she writes:
Diane 8 May 18:24
Not sure if you know Doug past away on Sunday of a massive heart attack he was at home when it happen
It's like someone Mule Kicked my guts across the room. But it's a joke. Attached to it is:
Diane 12 May 00:25
Hi
Did you get the message Doug past away last Sunday
If you go to the columbian obits you can see the details
We were trying to reach Jim to let him know
Diane
Oh shit. I'm on the phone to my younger brother Jim before I finish reading the next line:
Diane 14 May 21:41
Hey I sent you a message never heard from you
Do you have a number for your brother Jim?
You can call Kirk at
Or Fred at
So I tell Jim whats up. He's telling me it's a joke. I read the email to him. He says to call Kirk.
Kirk and Fred are Doug's brother.
Jim and me grew up with Fred, Doug and Kirk. They were our mortal enemies in grade school and the start of Jr. High. We lived in Vancouver, WA. in the rural area. The blocks were a from a 1/2 mile to a mile long and a 1/4 mile wide. F,D & K lived on the next block over.
After some good nature fights that kids got into back than we all became best of friends. We were either at their house or they at our house. Fred was a year older than Doug. But his parents held him back a year in grade school so him and Doug would be in the same classes.
The first time I saw Doug was in October of 1968. The last time I saw him was October 2008.
Because of dinking around I missed my best friends funeral.
One thing about Doug. He was built like a tank and strong as an Ox. So it was good to have him on your side in a fight.
Douglas Gatter 7/16/1958 to 5/6/2012 Rest in Peace Brother.

Sorry for yor loss OP.
We're burying one of my buddies tomorrow. I emailed the obit around.
It's a time saver. How much trouble is it to check email once a day?

First; Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers
It was me that was thinking it had to be a joke. As couldn't believe that he had died.
Than my Brother felt the same way.
I know I had not seen Doug in quite awhile. But I had talked to him on the phone. Plus I had seen the rest of the Family.
Also the business they are in made it hard. They laid carpet for the Hotels in the Washington, Oregon, Idaho region. And were not home much.
I also made a mistake on his Birthday. He was born on 7-16-58
Again. Thank you all for your kind words. Doug was a good man, friend and father to his children.

It was in a Facebook notice too so it would have been something that I would not usually pay attention to. But for Doug's sisters name on the heading made me take a look.
Most of my friends call me and we talk on the phone. I know it's old fashion. But I like to hear a human.
I use emails for update notices and mail from Relatives/Friends to send photos and other things.
I also don't "text".
Sorry
