They are around here all the time. Colorado City / Hilldale is the big Polygamist city in southern Utah. We watched a couple episodes of the show just for the trainwreck. They try to act all happy but the desperation, the longing for attention, the sulking, and the competitivness arent masked by the thin veil they try to wrap it all in.

If they are in the Mormon mold then it is not a desire to have separate housing . . . it is a requirement. The rules involved in living in a polygamous relationship are not terribly complicated, but they are quite specific.
And, yes, no wife will share the bed with her husband and another wife (or anyone else). No sisters, either, or mother-daughter.

Four daughters and a wife here, and while one can certainly decide to look at this issue through some scientific lens if you want, the simpler method is the experienced peace of passing through pre-hell week, hell week and post-hell week,unscathed leaving one sane happy uneventful week every month. Yes they do synchronize and its a good thing too.
