I was not, but we are home schooling our kids.
About 10 years ago I started getting into American history big time and through home schooling I am able to instill that love for history into my children
We are lucky in that when I travel for work, many times I can take my family and we have been to many places that other kids have not had the chance to go.
For instance, my son, who is 10 has been to
Mt Rushmore
the Crazy Horse Memorial
to the top of Pikes Peak, twice
all over Colorado back country, been to the head waters of the Rio Grande River
Lincoln County Courthouse where Billy the Kid escaped and his grave in Ft Sumner
Geronimo's Grave in Oklahoma
and many many more places.
We try to make history alive for our kids.

Sure was! Me and Sherlock had a blast up until I graduated! Oh wait, I thought you said Holmes Schooled! My bad,

ETA) That I got lucky and had a phenomenal history teacher Freshman year, and he instilled in me a love of all things historical. I thought I wanted to become a history teacher for a little bit.

I've been homeschooling my kids for the past 23 years.

Gecko45/Juggernaut is my oldest and he got his wry sense of satire and humor from someone other than me. My other 7 kids are also fully home schooled. Only 3 left in school now but it's been the greatest learning experience for the kids ever. They have traveled the US, lived in many states, and had experiences that most schoolkids couldn't dream about.

I am proud to say that I was homeschooled by my single parent. In the roughly 6 years that I was homeschooled, I gradually came to realize that I had been taught more about progressive ideas than actual education in the public school system. I'm still amazed at this, as there were so many stereotypes I thought were true, but that I later came to find - weren't. For example, somehow (I remember no specific time) I learned in public school that capitalism was a bad thing.. but now after various economics courses through university I've found that capitalism is mighty fine. Same with guns, until the point where a family friend took me hunting.

And none of my public school teachers ever told me what on earth the Pledge of Allegience meant. I went a long time without really knowing anything about it.

I wasn't Homeschooled but my wife and I Homeschool our 3 kids. They have a love for History( and guns ) as well. I am a History nut and have been blessed to be with my family all day everyday. We are also big into family tree/genealogy research. You can learn alot just by knowing where you come from. That has been the BEST history yet to date. I have a VERY interesting family tree.

I wasn't, but we are homeschooling our kids.

Years ago I was a Registrar for a graduate school and saw all the 'good students' were homeschooled. I spoke with other registrars around the nation about this and all were OK and happy with the kids - they were smart, knew how to speak with adults, responsible, paid their bills on time, tended to be leaders, and seemed otherwise 'normal and healthy' while all the supposedly "better socialized" public school kids had baggage and not the 'good kind'.

We thought it made perfect sense. After all, the teachers unions have been telling us for years that student to teacher ratio is the gold standard...homeschoolers have 1:1 or 1:3 ratios. Teach motivation is key too. You don't get a more motivated teacher than "mom"! Education of the teacher is important....most Mom's have at least a high school diploma. What does it say about public schools' education quality for Public school teacher unions to claim Highschool grads CAN'T teach GRADE SCHOOL kids?????

If you are being essentially tutored at home, you can't 'fake it', hide behind the smart kid, etc. you also don't waste time or fall behind. Mom's right there and knows you and can adapt to your needs, etc. so it makes perfect sense that homeschooling would be superior to all other schools in that sense.
