Here's an idea: How about a car repair shop by women, for women?

This idea just hit me the other day: Women are always complaining about being taken advantage of when it come to car repair. I think a car repair shop catering to women would be a killer idea. Ideally, the owner or front office staff would be women, and hopefully a lot of the mechanics as well. The key would be HONESTY in dealing with women and making them feel like they're not being taken advantage of.

Would you frequent such a shop? Personally, I think it would be a good business opportunity. If you get rich on this, send me 1% of your profits, OK?

I think it's a great idea. The only problem is that there are only three female mechanics in the universe, and they have a TV show on the Velocity Network - All Girls Garage.

ETA: and only two of them get their hands dirty.

I figured the hardest part would be female mechanics. Alternatively, the front-of-house would have to do most of the interfacing.

What would really work well would be:
1. Honest, disarming women up front
2. Shirtless, well-oiled hard bodies under the hood.
3. Let the girls (customers) sit in the waiting room and watch the proceedings via closed-circuit TV. Serve daiquiries, mimosas and wine.
4. Try to keep up with counting the Profit.

Hmm, well the only female mechanics I can think of are Sway in Gone In Sixty Seconds and Mikaela in Transformers.
So if they hire those two, yeah, I would take my car there.

My friend takes her car to a female mechanic. They do exist.

I'm happy with my guy and I trust him so I'm sticking with him. Women aren't any less likely to rip another woman off. In fact, I'd rather not deal with them at all.

I found the best thing is to learn how cars work. Even fix a few things. One of my first repairs was swapping a heater core in my '66 Mustang. Took me 6 hours, but I did it.
After such learning experiences, you can deal with just about any shop.

I do know a gal that can rebuild transmissions like no one's business, though. Honest and quality family shop in town.

'70 Cutlass. My father said he'd never heard a woman talk like that before.

Ah, you understand, too! I had much more colorful words when my oil filter finally broke loose, and I smashed my thumb.

I've helped rebuild a performance engine, swapped transmissions, alternators, fuel pumps and other stuff like that...not because I wanted to but because I just couldn't afford to have it done for me at the time. There's a degree of satisfaction and pride for doing it yourself but it doesn't even come close to the sheer frustration and anger that comes along with it...along with scrapes, cuts, bruises, broken nails, grease under your nails and stinkiness of it. I HATE working on cars!

I guess that's another innate difference between men and women. Men - even intellectuals - deep down enjoy doing stuff. Digging holes, wrenching on cars, woodworking, etc. etc. There's some kind of primal satisfaction associated with doing something tangible like that, grunting, and saying, "Oh yeah - I built that!"

I'm an electrical engineer, but I've done a lot of woodworking, dabbled in welding, do oil changes, etc. I think deep down every man wants to be the guy that drives the backhoe or excavator or something like that.

I've played with an excavator too. It's fun, but way harder than a competent operator make it look.

All of this, plus an extra +1 on the bolded part.

This is me, even though I realize I'm nothing like other women:

When my parents bought me a flute, I didn't play it much at all, but I loved, absolutely loved taking it apart to figure out how the valves worked, and putting it back together and taking it apart again. I used to do all my oil changes, air filters, fuel filter once or twice. It's satisfying and I enjoy it. The only reason I don't still do it is because of apartment living and air filters on my car are just plain impossible to deal with. If I was settled to where I could a wrench and park my car off the street, things would be very different.

I think both men and women tend to be lazy and incurious about things, mechanical and otherwise. Women get away with it more so they do it more. We indulge women when they ask us to bait their hook or or change their windshield wipers while we would force a man to do it on his own. We're saddles with vapid ninnies because we raised our daughters that way and we treat our girlfriends like retarded princesses, not because there's a "female nature" that just isn't good at reading a manual and turning a wrench.

I wish men made more of an effort to turn out tomboys when raising daughters and girlfriends because I really don't like the sheltered women I have to deal with every day. And I don't appreciate the way I've been sheltered and indulged in my laziness. It's not doing anybody any favors.

I don't think it has anything to do with gender and everything to do with people scummy enough to capitalize off of others' lack of knowledge.

I would be like most other repairs shops....except when they tried to rip you off, you would think to yourself..."innocent"....because they are women, and they are hot

I am a blinker fluid distributor and have excellent pricing plans for such a shop.

Is that like a head nurse? Because I've been offered that "position" before.

I don't know shit about cars, but I'm willing to learn on other people's time and property.

I'd frequent a repair shop staffed by nothing but women.

its a great idea, I tried to talk to the local community college about teaching do it yourself stuff, but it never flew. fwiw I only go to mechanics who will take the time to explain to me the problem so i can understand it. I'll pay more for this and I'm loyal.

It disturbs me somewhat how many women I've met that are perfectly okay with knowing that their lack of knowledge makes them easy targets at the mechanics.
"Boys get dirty, not girls", so I've been told.
I don't know how to penetrate such a horrid idea.

When we stop tolerating idiocy in our daughters and wives, women will be forced to act like decent, intelligent, rational people. Until then, la la la, ponies and ice cream... boys to do shit for me, shiny trinkets and butthurt because I want to drive your car and you keep trying to take me to get a driver's license instead.
