Hello all. Can anyone please send me pics of hand injuries from a hand gun ejector detonation? I've found some on google but I'm looking for the one that blew the guys hand nearly in half due to him covering the ejection port while racking the slide. Thanks!

There was just a thread on this here.
click
It has NOTHING to do with racking the slide, but being an idiot and trying to catch the ejected round.

the detonation occurs when a live round gets wonky on the breach face and the ejector, not the extractor, strikes the primer. Its an issue with the mechanical operation of the pistol and completely independent of where you hold the slide when racking it. Although you would probably get ate up less if your hand wasnt over the ejection port when the round goes off.
I know you know the difference, but its important to differentiate that for the OP who is most likely doing this research for a shift briefing or firearms instruction.
That being said, I have an STI with frontstrap serrations and i rack the slide from the front because i get a better grip and its easier. I may get my hand blown off one day, but with the millions of rounds being fired by guys every year, and the extremely rare instance of this occurring, i think im going to take the risk. You're much more likely to get colon/prostate cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, ect.
Basically its something thats good to be aware of, but i can let too many things keep me up at night.

I'm sure that's an extremely rare occurrence. Probably as rare as a round detonating at LAPD's academy a few years ago when it fell out of a recruit's hand and onto a tiny pebble on the ground.
Or that guy recently who was working out, dropped a weight on a live round and had it go off and shoot him
I saw this happen about 5 years ago at the USPSA Multigun Nationals..... A guy had finished a stage and was clearing his 2011 pistol and BANG !!! Scared everyone. His had was a little tore up (similar to the pics on this thread) but he was back the next day all bandaged up. Dont think he was able to finish the match.
