Wife wants to get her dad a range finder. Most likely from Cabelas. Her budget is $300 which I know is really on the low end for these things. Any tips or recommendations on getting something decent. I assume he will be using it for deer hunting mostly. Lives in W. NY so quite cold. I know leupold and nikon are good brands. Thanks.

You need to be more specific as to your requirement and activities. Is he bow, shotty, or rifle hunting deer? If he is bow hunting Leupold makes a rangefinder you mount on the bow that you zero with the sights. Would that be an option or would he prefer a handheld one that can be used for other uses? You can a pretty decent rangefinder for under $300. Check out SWFA.com. My friend has a Leupold RX-1000, and it is excellent. That is out of your price range, but you can get a RX-750 for under $300.

Rifle. I saw the bow mounted types, but that isn't what he needs. I would assume handheld for sure. I'll check out the site you mentioned. Thanks.

Bushnell or leupold are great for the money. just get one that is water proof / resistant.

I have the Nikon Riflehunter 550, It has the incline/decline technology built in. I really like it.
Right at the top of your price range.

My buddy told me about this deal on Optics planet, I was thinking about one for myself. A little out of your budget but good discount.
