Yeah, I've done trotline fishing before, but unfortunately no pics..

I was about twelve and we were at a rustic campground that also had a wild west show and a nice large pond.
My cousin and I were fishing in the pond with bobbers and worms when one of the wild west stunt guys came over and said he would show us how to catch all kinds of fish and we wouldn't even use a pole.
Well, this intrigued the hell out of us so we said SURE, let's do it!!!
Anyway, he shows us how to rig a trotline and soon we have enough bullhead to feed the whole camping club and give him a nice dinner as well.
The guy was kinda creepy, he really wanted to know about my older sister a lot, but I got good info out of it AND got to watch my sister shoot him down in flames. So it was all good.
Since that age I have gotten heavily into medieval reenactment and recreation and have learned that trotlining is about the oldest form of fishing since hooks started being used. Prior to that tidal traps were the shit.
That's also why there are the makings for trotlines in my BoB at all times...

Used to run a lot of trotlines growing up. There are some good little backwaters on the Mississippi up in Wisconsin to set them. Used to pull out some dang good Catfish.
Yuuuummmmm.
How much meat could one get out of the small catfish? What kind of catfish are they? What type of fish is the one in the center?

The small catfish in these pics are about the size of the ones you get in a restaurant if you order whole catfish. Usually 2 or 3 for a good meal.
On this trip we caught a mixture of blues and channel cats.
That middle one is about a 2 or 3 foot longnose gar. Not really something you would eat, we had several of those and just threw them back. They can get really big, but these were very manageable and we did not have to cut the line or anything.
I run jugs some. We got these one night back in May. They totaled 116 pound. The biggest was 40lb.

Man I would love to cook some of that up fresh. Nothing better than some fried catfish...
