Trout fishing in North/South Carolina
First of all, I just want to say that it was a nice surprise to find that this site has a fly fishing forum. I mean, I thought it was pretty cool that there's a Humidor forum, but a fly fishing forum too? This site has everything.
Now, on to business. There's a chance that I might be spending a lot of time in either North or South Carolina and that general area for the next few years, and I know there are trout around there, but I don't know much about the fishing there. Where are most of the trout streams? How far into the mountains do you have to go to find them? Especially in South Carolina, I know that the mountains are only in the western tip of the state, how many decent trout streams are there in South Carolina? Basically I just want an overview of the area if anyone could help me out.
Thanks,
Matt
My parents have a cabin a half mile from the Nantahala in NC (right at the tail of the dragon/Deal's Gap). Great fishing there and the Tellicoe(sp?) as well.
If driving to TN isn't too far, there is great trout fishing there. The Smokies have a lot of good fishing, both in NC and TN. In northeast TN, there are the South Holston and Watauga tailwaters as well as numerous mountain streams. My favorite fly fishing is in mountain streams for native brook trout.

Virginia also has some good water.
In NC/SC your going to be looking at small brookies.
The Brook Trout is native there but I know that NC is stocked with Browns and Rainbows.
I"d say you will find more and bigger fish in NC.

Virginia Has a site like this as well...
SC has some streams in the NW will try to remember the site for that one.... I live in Western NC and love to trout fish...The best fishing is away from the population corridors and a 20 min/1 mile walk from your Car.... Lots of good fishink in the National Parls/Forests and State Parks.... Dont forget to hit the Gamelands during off season....
