it's an older dayton 4k that the guy rebuilt the gen head in a couple of months ago. she runs but really needs a new carburetor.

should i consider converting this one to NG when i replace it or just say to heck with it and leave it gasoline. 1 already have a 7.5k and this will strictly be a secondary.

Are you going to add a tri-fuel kit or would it be NG only?

I wouldn't convert to strictly NG, but I would consider buying the sort of tri-fuel conversion that allows use of gasoline or NG.

Having options is always a good thing.

Any chance of being able to salvage the existing carb for use on NG (like this propane hack)?

my opinion if its a backup keep it the same fuel as the main genny..

Also I wouldnt convert it to NG, you would want the larger engine that uses more gas to run on Natural gas vs., a smaller fuel sipper like the 4k unit. Unless you got the conversion kit cheap.

it was rebuilt by a local generator service company, new brushes and whatever else goes into one. power is fine just ahrd to start and runs a bit rough due to the carb being in seriously rough shape. butterfly is corroded through in several spots and rust on most of the jets. i considered rebuilding it but i really think this carb is toast.

any links to the tri fuel conversions?

Yeah, I'd agree that it's toast, then.

I bought my conversion kit from these guys. They sell dedicated LP and NG conversion kits and tri-fuel kits. Their website sucks, so you may be better off just calling them for info.

Also, depending on what engine that genny has, you may be able to get a new OEM or clone carburetor off of eBay for $30-40.

ETA: GIven the condition of your carb, check the condition of your governor springs carefully and make sure the governor arm is free to travel.
