I have an older Black & Decker unit that seems to be getting weak. What is the best option for a powerful small unit. The inflator is not required. A couple 110v outlets are nice. Lighter the better.

Simply replace the internal battery/batteries and your should be fine. Most use the same batteries as a deer feeder.

I would love to find a smaller simpler lighter unit. Maybe lithium ion?

I like the weight/size of the LiPO's, but damn they are $$$

This is what I would do, too.

My wife bought an Energizer jump pack a few years ago. It has a compressor, inverter, and light built-into it. It's been very useful. During the week-long outage from the tornado swarm last Spring we kept it plugged into the wall in the house. Anytime I ran the generator it was automatically topped-off. Anytime the genny wasn't running we used the inverter for charging phones and laptops. It worked perfectly.

This is the model my wife bought: http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-84020-All-In-One-Jump-Start-Compressor/dp/B0030B2N10/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335188501&sr=8-1

I just got this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Clore-Automotive-JNC660-12-Volt-Starter/dp/B000JFJLP6

It has no bells and whistles just pure jump power.

I got it for this beast as a just in case and keep it in the trunk. Been working on it for the last month and a half after work and weekends. Still a couple weeks to go.

I have a Die Hard from Walmart. Jumped a car after the jumper sat in the back for 6 months without a hitch. I believe it has 2 100V outlets on the front. It cost about $65 bucks.

i've got one of these and it works great. i know for a fact it will charge laptops, phones, etc and we've used it to run our fireplace blower during a power outage for a couple hours. my wife uses it on occasion to power a cash register at craft shows. it came with a set of jumper cables but i've never used it in that capacity. they make smaller ones also.

I like this one, just got it last year for my wife's car:
Peak

Nice feature that it will beep when the charge gets too low if you pull the pin (don't lose it) out.

I tried the big black and decker one (nice and flat) but it wouldn't even take a charge so I returned it. I also have an older Vector one from 2002 still going strong. I like the ones with 450amps or more. It will start a dead car in the cold with no hesitation or waiting. I have jumped so many cars with the Vector one, never mine, always see people with dead battery after a game in the parking lot etc.
