Alice Pack Question
I have a medium size Alice Pack with a frame set up. I am thinking of getting the large size Alice pack for my bob, but worried about overloading it. If I set up the med alice pack for my wife, I dont want ot overlad her either. Anyone prefer the large Alice Pack over the Medium.?????
I prefer the large alice pack and my wife has the medium. The setup works well for both of us. If I remember correctly her bag weighs 32lbs loaded and mine come out to 38-42 depending of what gear i decide to pack.
The issue with the large ALICE is, IIRC, that it doesn't have compression straps, so a less than full loading gets sloppy. Easily corrected. by adding on some ad hoc straps.
Do be careful, though, as you can load a large ALICE pretty heavy without really meaning to.

It's a long thread, but it will tell you all you will ever want to know about ALICE packs, including how to modify them to modern standards of weight-carrying capacity and comfort.

For me the problem with the ALICE was not overloading and weight, it was loading it up and having the load stick too far out and pulling my balance out of whack. I didn't care for the short, wide, and fat method of load carrying, vs the tall and skinny of modern internal fame packs.
That was a good long read on Alice Packs...Some great info..Thanks..I think I will stick with my medium pack/frame and modify my other one without a frame for the wife..
