Speed Goat Optics

Is a Burris 3-9x with ballistic plex good enough for speed goats in Wyoming ? I am going to be using it on a .270 with a 22 inch barrel and would like to limit shots to 300-400 yards max. I've heard two trains of thought, one is that 14X on the top end is the minimum and the other is that mirage is so bad at 14X that you should limit magnification to 10X in most cases ... So what say you speed goat experts out there ?

it's just awfully damned hard to beat a good quality 3X9 on a hunting rifle........

Thanks, there is so much out there about higher magnification scopes for Pronghorn that I wanted to check here first. The two times I've seen them in Wyoming they were at least 600 yards which is out of my range to risk an ethical shot with any scope.

I try to hunt broken ground where I can put the sneak on them.
Was planning to take my daughter to WY this year for antelope, but we didn't pull the tags.
And I was going to take a ML this time.(well, in addition to a centerfire
)
I practice out to 300 yds, but honestly, I'd have to be locked in pretty tight and prone to shoot that far at an animal in field condtions.

3-9 is plenty. I went out to WY last year and got 3 goats, 325yds was the longest shot I took, just cause I wanted to.
My buddy and I both got our bucks at less than 200yds and I got within bow range of several antelope.

I use a 3X9 Zeiss for Prairie Locusts almost exclusively.
ETA: make sure you have a nice set of binoculars, and maybe a spotting scope...you will be spending much more time behind either of those than your rifle scope.
