Any one hunt with a Browning BAR 300 win mag ?
i want to buy a dedicated Elk rifle and found a good deal on a lightweight stalker Bar 300 win mag.
it does not have the boss on it.
i have been hunting with a Bar 30.06
I know the lighter weight means more felt recoil
but i also know that the gas system on the Bar reduces that some .
i was wondering how much that recoil effects follow up shots
and if any one has compared it side by side with a Bar 30.06 how much noticeable difference between the
and if anyone went from any 30.06 to 300 mag if they had any regrets
my 30.06 has served me well but i am now hunting a different area where there will be longer shots
Finally, my kind of question... Im a little guy, so i was intially scared to go to 300 win mag, but If I could hunt deer down here in fl with it, i would. I also do have a alt 6 in bar platform, and the w.m. is in bar platform as well. I really think i need a 338 win mag, for this seasons hunt.. 600 plus yards is a long shot... So to answer your question.. GO FOR IT!!!
I upgraded from an 06 to a 300WM and haven't had any regrets. Up close they have a tendency to go right on through, though.
It's not a BAR but my sister was shooting savage 110 in 300wm.
She's only 5'4,105# and handle the recoil good.
Deer and caribou have fallen to that rifle and her.
We also used it on moose with damn good results.
Have taken moose out to 600yrds with it.
Two of my buddies, brothers, both elk hunt with BAR's in .300wm. They swear by 'em.
My brother and I and these same two friends also all deer hunt with BARs in '06. Our dads were best friends and bought four identical rifles for their boys and we've been hunting with them ever since. I got my BAR when I was twelve, and now I'm 36. It's never malfunctioned. I call it "old reliable"; if you stacked up the deer I've killed with it, you'd have a helluva hill in front of you.
I got nothing bad to say about my Browning.
thanks for the advise everyone I went ahead and sold the old faithful BAR 30.06 and bought my new to me BAR 300WM
I shot it for the first time today its the first time i have shot a .300 wm although my first Rifle was a mossburg 7mm magnum i got for my 14 birthday if i could handle that as a skinny teenager this should be a pc of cake i got of lot more grounding me now , It does pack a lot more walup but i liked it . Its a light weight model
I must say i prefer the wood but I like that this does not weigh any more than my 30.06 . I did not have time to properly zero it as it got dark on us but i cant wait to see what i does .
