How many copies of "Lights Out" need to be sold before movie consideration I wonder?
Got the book over the holidays and enjoyed it immensely and plan on reading it again soon. It just got my gears turning. Who would you cast? I believe this could be done with a modest budget, (depending on the actors). I wish there was a larger audience out there so we could see more of these type films instead of yet more remakes.
Certainly is a great book, and would make a great movie. I hope David can pull that off some day.

This would be better as a mini-series.

Too much plot for 2 hour movie. Mini series would be the way to go.
There still hasn't been a mini-series on Lucifer's Hammer, so I wouldn't hold my breath on Lights Out.
I always said that if I come into huge money I will personally finance this into a movie or mini series.
Only one. It just has to be the RIGHT one.

When I first saw the movie poster for Deep Impact, I got my hopes up that they had finally made a movie from Lucifer's Hammer, but they only got some of the ideas from that book I think.

Absolutely true!
With the success of Walking Dead on AMC, I suspect we're going to see more of that kind of activity from their corner - and in genre's that may not have been considered "mainstream" before. It looks like the new Spartacus series kicked off again, and there's a pile of mini-series in the works by a few of the big names (6 to 8 episodes - enough to test the waters without blowing money on a full season). I'm hoping other (hopefully successful?

) projects hitting the market spawn an interest in Lights Out. That's usually how things seem to work.....
I think that you could make it as TV but I think that cable would work better than network. As far as casting that's tough. This I will have to ponder. I also think it would make a great graphic novel.
Here's what I want to know. I know the book has been charting well on Amazon. How many copies have been sold?
By the way did anyone have any issues with the cover delaminating.
Waaaiiitttt a minute..
Lights out is a published book now? Awesome!

This is first I've heard of this. Sorry that you had trouble. Send it back to Amazon or wherever you bought it for a replacement. If they don't take care of you, I will.
David
I was up till 4am this morning finishing "Lights Out." I could not sleep, had to finish it. Next to the Holy Bible, I think this is the best book I have ever read. We need a good movie or mini-series now. Was it me, or did anyone else picture "The Gunny" as R Lee Ermy?
I also envisioned Lee Ermy myself while reading it

Someone in another discussion threw out Sam Elliot for the role of Gunny.
That's just who I pictured as I read it.
I tried to imagine who would be a good fit for the role of Karate Man.
The best I could come up with is Matt Damon. I think he could pull it off.
I watched the movie "The Town" recently which got me thinking maybe Ben Affleck could take the part of Mark's buddy Jim.

No offense, but please, Lord, no. Maybe Christian Bale as Mark and Adam Baldwin as Jim? I do agree with Sam Elliot as Gunny though. Think I better keep my day job..........
I don't know, I've always pictured Sam as the sheriff
and R Lee as Gunny

Sam Elliot as a Texas Sheriff, I think that is a perfect fit. I pictured Mark as being played by Gary Sinese. He's a great actor and a big supporter of the troops. Maybe Jeff Daniels as Jim. If Jon Olson were at-least in his 40's Stephen Lang (Avatar) would be perfect. He plays a real good bad guy.

That's not bad. He has shown that "Mark" quality in "The Stand."
I just bought the kindle version to read while flying on a recent trip. I had read various internet versions but never sat down and finished the whole thing back to back. Every time I read this I have trouble keeping track of who is who. The cast is simply huge! A appendix listing characters with a brief bio would be a great addition. I find a great deal of the "small" talk conversation to be canned. What year was the original penned or rather when did it first start getting written?
Just put the kindle version on the wifes birthday present. Was glad to see it was Kindled, didnt think it would be.

I hate you guys. My copy came in today, and I've only been able to put it down long enough to post this message.
