 Icom 7000 issues (fixed)

So last night I was on an 80M net and towards the end I received a poor signal report. My SWR went off the charts on 80M. I tried a different antenna, and the same thing. Then I changed out jumpers, same thing. What's weird is that I can get all the other bands to tune 1 to1-1.5. It's just 80 meters that I can't control the SWR. I tried my backup radio and had no issues. I"m not quite sure what to make of this. I have a feeling it's headed back to icom.

Icom IC 7000
LDG Z-11 pro tuner
DX engineering 80 tuned dipole w/ 1/1 balun

Input welcomed

Have you eliminated the tuner from the circuit? Maybe it has issues and not the rig.

Didn't think of that.

Well, at this point the tuner doesn't matter. I swapped out my current tuner w/ an IT100, and the the radio wouldn't turn on. When the power supply is turned on, the radio just clicks. Back to Icom.

It's not the power supply, my backup rig runs just fine, along w/ my vhf/uhf. Good news is there's an Icom warranty center in MI.

Called AES Cleveland on saturday. They gave me a name and number of a local service/repair center in St. Joseph MI. Call the #, someone answered, (an American) and the process started. Radio shipped today, 40$ to ship,(insure, DC etc.....).

more to follow.....

Radio came back today.

Bad power cord, which is something I should have found prior to shipping. It was replaced, and I"m back up on my 7k. There was a lack of spring tension on the 30a fuse on the + side, which created low power, then a complete open.

Like a saying we have at work.

For what it's worth, I would recommend replacing the native Icom cable altogether. When I owned one, I constantly suffered from problems that kept the radio from working at full power. The design of the fuse holders does not use self cleaning contacts. My fuses developed significant corrosion which lead to under voltage while under load. This lead to low power outputs. I replaced the cables and all was fine again.
