Hello, I am looking to get a duck/fishing boat. I am looking at a smaller one around 12-16 foot. I do not want to spend more than 1K for it. It will be used on rivers and lakes. Which would be better a "V" bottom or a flat bottom boat? What type of duck blind- if any - should I use? I am in the Vancouver WA. Area, So where are some of the places I can go?
Thank you for your time.
I don't know if you're gonna be able to spend under $1k for a decent boat and motor all together. As far as v bottom or flat bottom goes that all depends on how rough the waters can get where you plan to use it. I have a 14' flat bottom War Eagle, its great when the water is calm and for the most part it is, but when the wind picks up and you get some chop it can get pretty rough. For a duck blind I use the Cabelas Northern Flight blind or you can make your own. If you keep an eye on the Cabelas bargain cave the frame goes on sale pretty often. I think I paid around $400 for the frame, wind blocker, and camo all together.
It depends on how big the water is if you go with a V bow of flat bottom. I like the Mod-V for the places I hunt the most. It will be tough to find a good duck boat for that price. Here are some places to check out. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. My wife being the Crag's list Queen, found a free 12 foot V-bottom fibreglass boat built in the 70's. Boat only, no motor, or trailer. What the owner told me was that it has a small leak near the bow and I can tell is that it needs a drain plug. So after getting a drain plug I will put water in it and see how bad a leak it is. If I find that it will be more of a hassle that it's worth, it will look nice near the pond in the pasture.

Remember safety especially if you are hunting big open water. Personally I wouldn't take anything out on the water even with the slightest leak. If you decide to get a newer model boat don't be cheap, buy the max power motor that the boat is rated for. I was always told HP saves lives.
