LaRue SBR. Options, lead time, etc.

I have finally decided to jump through the hoops and get an SBR. For general purposes, and HD. Basically would like to be able to shoot to 100 and everything short of that, accurately. After shooting my buddies 7.5 and 10.5" Noveskes I know they can shoot far more accurately than I thought. Ultimately I plan to suppress it as well.

I am wavering a little between just buying a stripped lower and having it engraved, which would allow me plenty of time to find a good upper, while I wait on approval, or just buying a complete SBR from the factory. If I can find one in stock I will go this route, but I really dont want to wait on the weapon, and not be able to start the longer wait on the ATF after finally getting the gun.

Unless there are other ways of doing it that I am missing, I think one of those two options are my best route. So, to my questions.

Anytime I buy a complete rifle, the first place I look is LaRue. So, I glanced at LT's site and the only complete SBR I see is the OBR 5.56. Which I would be perfectly fine with, but are there any other SBR's available from LT? And can anyone tell me if they know approximate lead time on the OBR 5.56 10.5"?

Obviously, I will call LT on Monday, but I was wondering if anyone can offer me any insight on the LT SBR's as well as general tips on my first SBR. Thanks.

There wasn't a long wait time on the 12.5" OBR 556 as of a month ago. I ordered on 2 Apr and was billed on 13 Apr, currently waiting on Form 3. I just placed the order on the website and my FFL emailed Julie a copy of his FFL/SOT.

I would agree. Get a LaRue Lower and order a 12" Stealth. You can send your lower for engraving while you wait for your stamp.

I will call them Monday on this option. And am considering the stripped lower option as well.

I have the 12" Stealth upper on a LT Stripped lower (currently set up as a pistol stock, till my stamp comes) and I can ring the plates out too 300 no problem with Iron sites or Red Dot, no Magnification...

I CAN NOT wait for the stamp to come so I can put a proper stock on it...

Is a trip to the range in order for you to shoot the 12" OBR 556?

Just sayin...

Thanks Joe. Looking forward to getting together and trying out some of your LT SBR's. You will likely make my decision much harder.

But we will have a good time I am sure.

10.5" gun. LaRue doesn't offer one so take your pick between LMT, BCM, and Noveske (overpriced).

I really wish LaRue offered a 10.5" SBR with adjustable gas block. 12" is a little longer than what I'd want with a suppressor added and the canted top rail of the OBR isn't something I'd want in an SBR.

I am going to shoot a 12.5" LaRue in about 10 days and then I will be able to make a much better decision. I have fired Noveske 10.5's and 12.5's. I THINK I want a 10.5 because the whole point is compactness, but I do read about suppressor wear being more significant on the 10's than the 12's but I dont know if it is really something that will ever affect me. I am not shooting full auto, nor will it be a real high round count weapon. So, I am still leaning 10.5 but havent ruled out 12.5" (pertaining to your over priced comment-over priced is a subjective term. I certainly think LaRue is a better value, but Noveske makes a great product as well)

If I dont get LaRue, I would likely buy Noveske or have Kevin O'neill build me one. Probably the latter, but then there is the whole switch block issue. I think I would rather have the adjustable block than not, but not sure how big a deal it will really be for me.

If LaRue sold the 12.5" upper alone, I would probably go that route. I am just not wanting to spend the extra funds on a whole new lower(by buying a complete SBR) when I can SBR one of my existing lowers. I dont have unlimited funds and I am trying to get an SBR and a quality suppressor as well.

Lots of decisions to make. Mr LaRue, please consider selling the uppers alone when you get time to contemplate it.

Planning on running the AAC 51t brake/mount. Assuming I go with the 762 sdn-6.
