This.

Lost 2/3 of my business yesterday. I'm bored.

??? What do you mean by 2/3?
company lost a management contract and subsequently, four of the six assets I oversee went bye bye yesterday. If they don't get another contract, and it doesn't look promising, I'll be laid off at the end of the month. Until then I'm bored.
Wow, that sucks... Do you have anything lines up should you get laid off?
Nothing firm yet. Been looking since I got the news in early March. Might have a good lead on a job in Tampa. Hate to sell my house and move but I'll do what I gotta do to stay employed. Moving the woodshop is going to be a royal pain in the ass.
Not down, just bored
ETA, also might have a couple of leads for the Dallas area. So, if an outsider moves to Texas will he always just be a wanna be Texan? Will I have to destroy all of my Washington Redskins gear?

I saw a bumper sticker recently which read, "I wasn't born in Texas but got here as fast as I could."

Well, if you do move to Dallas, my company is hiring.
I'm not a huge NFL fan, so the redskins crap doesn't bother me. It's the Yankees fans I cant stand. You'd be hard pressed to find a more classless group of people.

Didn't think Texans were allowed to admit they don't follow football.

My company has a headquarters in Dallas and I got a lot of contacts and co-workers there. It's at the top of my places to move to if it comes to it. Plus it'd be easier to attend LaRue range days and give me a chance to actually meet the Marks.
Never said I'm not a football fan, just said I don't like the national felon league. I am a NCAA football junkie.
Hope everything works out. I guess since you are bored, I should do some research and decide which pen I want before the shop is all boxed up.
Thinking about one of those pens as well, for Household Six' birthday in August...
We welcome all comers to Texas.
1) Please speak english. And by english, I don't mean that Yankee crap. Spanglish is also acceptable, as long as you acknowledge that the Alamo is a rallying point, not a car rental company, and that we kicked Mexico's ass in the end.
2) The "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as quick as I could" bumper sticker is recommended, but not required. If you do not choose to display the aforementioned bumper sticker, do not display a bumpersticker flouting alternative heritage. We drive large trucks with larger bumpers.
3) It is not required to support local Texas teams. HOWEVER, there ARE certain teams on the prohibited list. If your car has bumperstickers, window flags, licence plate frames, window lettering, or a paint job that supports one of these prohibited teams, there may be adverse consequenses. I will not bother to list the teams, but if you choose to take the chance and you return to your car to find a smouldering wreckage in its place, take it as confirmation that you chose poorly.
4) Austin is weird. We like it that way. Leave it alone. We have plenty of non-weird cities. Feel free to live there, instead.
5) The Toyota Tundra is made in San Antonio. It is therefore excluded from any rants about people who don't buy 'Merican. As a point of note, it is generally a bad idea to start a conversation about which pickup trucks are superior. Buy a big one, leave it at that. Any discussion will become heated, and we all carry guns.
6) Speaking of carrying guns, you've probably heard the saying "Don't mess with Texas." It started as an anti-littering campain (please don't litter), but is acceptable as a general way of doing things. If you mess with Texas, or a Texan, you will find out why Clint Smith said, "pistols are for fighting your way to your long gun." Here in Texas, we have something we call a Truck Gun. You don't want to figure out what that is by pissing someone off.
7) Learn how to drive before you get here.
8) If you are from California, don't try to change our way of doing things. California failed. That's why you're here. Don't make the same mistake twice. This goes for other oppressive states, like Illinois and most of New England. Frankly, I think someone should have to live in Texas way longer than 6 months to be able to vote.

Well done, sir. God Bless Texas!
In reference to #7, I'm having trouble trying to figure why all the slow drivers must drive in the left lane, or pace all the other vehicles across all the lanes? For all it's faults in IL, at least you stayed out of the left lane unless you wanted to get shot or run off the road.
Call in sick to work. FKn stomache bs

Most likely... I moved to TX after leaving the Army, lived there for over 10 years... have now moved twice since then, and am always looking for the angle to get back... and no, you don't have to give up your Redskins stuff (even though their sucking over the last decade might make you want to - grew up in the DC area so will always be a Skins fan)... and at least in TX you have choices... the Texans are better organization anyway, and in fact liking them over the ducheboys is natural for a Skins fan)
What kind of asset management do you do? Real estate I am assuming, but residential, retail, office?

Multi-family. I'm a Regional Property Manager and oversee apartment communities basically. 2,304 apartments as of yesterday were under my watch.

Unfortunately, I think Austin has changed quite a bit... perhaps due to people breaking rule #4.... which is part of the reason I picked up my shit and moved north to Cedar Park after being an Austinite for 20 years.

Wrd. Most of the ppl in austin currently are hipsters from CA. All the original austinites have moved out to Bee Cave, Dripping Springs, Spicewood, Leander etc
Here in Texas, we have something we call a Truck Gun.
And, some of them are made right here in Texas!

I was down in Dallas a couple weeks ago... Saw the same drivers in the left lane going slow... They had TX plates...

They all live here now, but they are from other states. Dallas is the 4th largest metro in the country now. Unfortunately, most of that growth is through imports.
Rest assured about me. I'm in Charlotte after all. NASCAR hall of fame and all that.
