Short stroking problem
I've put a rifle length system on a Adams arms upper receiver and it short strokes. Sometimes it looks like it gets up half way on a round and jams. It never catches bolt latch although sometimes grabs another round just fine. I got a set of gauges and without the spring on the rod adjusted the gap from .015 to .025 in .001 increments and would not catch the bolt latch. Hat else are some things I can check or do I need to call Adams ? Please help me out . Thanx in advance!
I'm using hornady ammo.
What buffer are you using?
Got magpul prs with rra buffer tube spring and buffer. All standard but it is ok to run system with a2 isn't it? Or do I need an m4 stock
Talked to Jim at Adams. He told me to either drill gas port in barrel or cut buffer tube one coil at a time. Rifle works like a charm now but what a fing headache!

I had the same problem.
Rifle length barrel (WOA) and AA Rifle Piston ~ PRS stock.
After numerous combinations of buffers and springs.
Endine Rifle Buffer and Wolff Reduced Power Spring.
Works pretty much most of the time ~ still testing different ammo.
I may try a few more combos until I am satisfied with complete reliability.
Extra power springs do not work at all.
I only used a 5.3 oz rifle buffer and the Endine.
Used multiple springs including the Tubbs.
Too many headaches but the experience is enlightening.

Well said! I talked to Jim and was instructed to either increase gas pressure or reduce resistance . He said it's easier to reduce resistance first rather than drilling barrel. I cut coil at a time off till it worked perfect and that was three coils off a standard rra a2 buffer. Works great now but what a headache. Link me to where you found a spring that works without modification please.

Did you measure the size port you have in your barrel? For a rifle, it should be around 0.061". I just resolved a similar symptom for an instructor. His port was way undersized for the length barrel he was running. All it took was two measurements, the bridgeport in the garage, a drill bit and one minute of machine time. Now his upper can be used on any lower. It so much longer to remove the components and reinstall them than the fix. After it was completed, the rifle ran 100% with six different ammo types.

My rifle length barrel port was .093
is your gas block squared up correctly and did you leave a bit of room between the gas block and the shoulder on the barrel? Should be 2 business cards IIRC of space where your handguard cap would normally be.

Dang, cutting three coils off. I bet that was a headache. Must have been grueling.
Just hacking on ya. lol! Seriously though, glad you got it working. I'd just leave the spring you have in it. It will be fine.
