Minor drum tweek before mass release!

I found a minor problem with the drum feeding, it came up occasionally while testing and was mentioned by a few beta testers. Its not a big deal but I want to do the mod to prevent any problems. The drum case on some parts is separating slightly during operation near the feed tower. How I proved it was while shooting it stopped, I pinched it back together and the stack jumped back into action. This got me thinking and today I decided to add 2 small screw bosses to the outside of the case on each side of the feed tower. This will guarantee we wont have a separation. Mold mods will be done in the morning and we re-run them Tue the 3rd. and will be back in production that day. About 40 drums went out and those people will be getting a free replacement drum housing with the new modification. I'm scrapping 500 drum cases but it will be worth it knowing you will get a better product.
Sorry for the few day delay but I'm looking out for us and you the shooters!

Side note –– I only experienced the failure with semi auto, full auto ran 100% because it didnt have time to seperate before being empty!

I was on the phone with Kevin while he was in the process of
Fixing the problem. Sending an E-Mail to the tester who slammed
him on U-Tube, Getting the guy to make it apparent that the fix was
already in process. Kevin's E-Mail "pops up" at the beginning
of the video. Kevin was also sending me E-Mail Links to the videos
as they came up. He was talking with me trying to get me to see
the possible problem,,, that took some time. I finally realized what he
was talking about but my drum had run fine.

And, he was planning several other things, all at the same time.....

Be patient, Kevin will have everything fixed in a flash. He wants
everyone to be very satisfied with the drum they get. I don't see
where this would have ever caused a failure for me, but he'll be sending
me the fixed parts too. Along with everyone who received a drum so far...
Mine works perfect so for me it's "macht nichts"............

Kevin, you are frikken amazing.

Here's the timeline Folks...I get an email saying that I am going to get a drum to beta test last Thursday, It arrives Monday, I post results and after dissecting the drum that night notify Kevin of an issue that I and apparently others had, and here it is just a few days later and a fix has been drawn up and things are in the works already. It makes my head spin.

Where else in the industry does this sort of overhaul happen so quickly based solely on customer/user feedback? It just doesn't. Other outfits take weeks to get a simple design change done. At BDM shit gets done.

I look forward to the update.

There is a great advantage in dealing with "the man in charge" No committe meetings.

Mold mods are done guys! here is some pics of it just finished in the CNC mill. You can see the 2 little screw bosses on each side of the tower. Beauty of having our own tooling shop-MADE IN USA!
And a pic of Ngoc assembling drums, My kid David is in the background.
Drums will come packaged in the white re-closable boxes you see in the picture and will have full user manual inside. The user manual will also be available as a download next week from our web page.

I ordered one the 29th and recieved an e-mail saying it shipped the 30th.........will I be getting an old one that has to be sent back as soon as I get it, or would that have been the new one?

You, others and I will receive the new Parts to
accomplish the fix ourselves.. I don't even know
if it's worth changing on mine. It works perfect as is.
I'll put the parts away in a safe place for the future..

Try yours when it comes in, it may not give you a problem..
Then decide what you want to do when the parts come...

If anyone that got the drums as beta units or the few that went out before the housing screw mod and is experiencing fail to feed the last round here is a easy fix. The Follower needs to come up a little higher, we have done this mod and every thing that goes out will have it done. It is a simple mod done buy trimming the tail connected to the boss. here is a pic before and after. This wont affect most of you as there are fewer than 40 units out there including the beta units. Further more most guys did not experience this problem, I just want them perfect!

HK416's have a longer magwell that will not seat the drum as is.

I can probably mod the drums to see if they work, and considering that I have a first gen designed drum in hand now, I don't think it should be a problem that I mod the tower to see if I can get it to work.

The only change needed is to add two notches, one on each side of the tower to allow the mag to seat higher up and engage the catch.

(HK416 Lowers, using CMMG, CEINER, and Spikes 22lr Kits)

I will call BDM tomorrow to confirm that I can mod one of my drums without voiding the warranty.

Hopefully this will end well.

A couple videos of the drum in action:
Factory Colt 614 (MG) used with Ciener kit. Ammo was CCI Blazer. Also tried bulk packed Federal which worked just as good.

Got my drum monday.

It is a very nice unit, quality made as expected. The slight delay in getting mine was that Kevin must have been able to stop the un-modified one just before it shipped out to me....then ship the "good to go" item just a couple days later.....thanks Kevin.

The first time I ran it, it had a few issues. It was my ciener unit that had the trouble, not the mag.

I put 2 and 2 together and realized that even though you can run the 22 conversion without a buffer in place, that it isn't a good idea. The problem is that the conversion unit can move back and fourth ever so slightly........this cause the entire unit to move forward when the hammer falls. This, in turn causes light strikes now and them.

i made a machined nylon "buffer" to reduce the unwanted/un-needed weight of the standard 5.56 buffer. With this in place it ran a perfect 100/100 today. 50 rounds through the new drum and 2 x 25 through BDM stick mags. Very happy.

The drum is actually very easy to load. Just don't do all your loading the day after you accidentlly cut your finger nails too short
