Hi guys,

I am in need of a URX wrench for the new style nut. I would like to buy one but so far cant find one. Operation Parts is out, and since Lawmens wont return my calls now that Casey isnt there I am not sure where to turn. I know I can send these uppers out and have it installed, but I have three to do and I am sure there will be more on the way. Add to that I like to be able to service the guns and break them down if need be, you can see why I would like to buy a wrench.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where to find one, or who to contact to get one?

Thanks
Pat

I was going to say King Optic USA, but it appears they are out of stock. It's not listed, but you may want to give Valkyrie Tactical a call, too.

There are a couple options here.

::: OPTION 1 :::
AR15 member "unclemoak" machines his own URX-III wrenches for less than half the price of the KAC wrench:

I have the above wrench and it has worked perfectly for me several times now. I highly recommend it, especially since the KAC wrench is so pricey.

Go to page 10 in the above link to see more pics of the final product.

::: OPTION 2 :::
Someone listed a original KAC wrench on the EE today for $200:

Is he (unclemoak) making them again? His last post said he had graduated and was moving away from his normal shop....

Dang. Well it looks like I got mine a month prior to him stopping production (Got mine in May 2011). I guess it'd be best to go with Option 2 then.

I am in St. Louis about half of every month . I have one you can borrow but can't take it with you. I know you from matrix owner and gateway paintball back in the day. New screen name now. PM me if you want.

Guys thanks for the links and hvacguy, thanks for the offer i appreciate it. I ended up getting the one posted up in the EE, so problem solved, and I saved myself some money. I was going to do the make my own thing as I do the CAD stuff for a living and have drawn one up for fun just like the guy in the first post did. Just never got out in the shop and put the program through mastercam and onto a mill.

Thanks
Pat

Read the post above my original one. No he isn't making them right now... but do you think he took the dimensions and tossed them? Is he planning on starting over from scratch if he ever wants to build them again? I doubt it. He may not have any wrenches for sale but for someone with access to a CNC he may pass along the dimensions so you can do your own. Can't hurt to ask...I can't speak for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses to keep the measurements to himself so that he can make and sell more in the future. That said, certainly can't hurt to ask.

Again...it's a question only he can answer, but anyone with a factory KAC URX wrench can reverse engineer one with the proper knowledge and equipment...so it's not like the information is secret squirrel type stuff.

Absolutely. Anyone with an original wrench or new type URX nut can derive measurements. It just takes access, time, money, trial and error, expertise and labor to do it right. All of which he's spent considerable amounts of to get super tight tolerances (which is an absolute must for aluminum nuts). While the base design isn't patented to him, after expending all those resources to replicate it, I don't see how it'd be in his best interest to just give it away. There's really nothing for him to gain by doing that ... other than good will. He could just as easy to say to anyone inquiring, if you think it's so easy, go ahead and try it yourself. I'm not him, and I obviously don't speak for him. I just wouldn't be surprised if he declined to share info given how hard that info was to obtain in the first place.

I've got a high precision 3D scanner so if anyone is willing to send a factory URX wrench, I can post full dimensions.
