Just picked up my new LE6920MP-R. Have been kicking around getting one for awhile but deal was right place right time on this so I snagged it. Also grabbed the truglo sight with it, I know its cheap but for $10 what the heck I will see how well it does when I get a small riser under it.

This has been a hard purchase. In 2006 our oldest son (19) was killed by a .22 his best friend was carelessly trying to clear in his bedroom when it went off. Since then, there have been no weapons in the house much less even mentioning them. Now our 12 year is curious about guns as he plays paintball etc. I don't want him to fear guns, but I want him to respect and learn about them in a safe environment with myself (Marine) and my nephew who is a police officer and now weapons instructor. I can't control what other people do but I can help him learn when someone has or is using a weapon in an unsafe manner and remove himself from that situation hopefully. I really used to enjoy shooting and hope to start again now, its been an emotional roller coaster.

Congratulations on your new purchase. Sorry to hear about your loss, I'm sure your son wouldn't want any of you to fear such things at his expense but rather bestow the proper knowledge his friend may have had to learn the hard way. It is a much different world for kids growing up at this time. I was just at my 12 year old cousin birthday, he got an mp5k replica bb gun, and in the garage he has paintball gun, airsoft gun, 2 pellet rifles and a bow. I never saw anything past a nerf gun at his age and did not buy my first gun, an AR, until i was 20.... this concerns me. Nerf guns dont look anything near the realism these bb and pellet guns look. Im starting to fear that children are growing up desensitized to the nature of these things, since there is no "respawning" in real life. God bless your family and good luck in your teachings. I hope to do the same if I have a son some day.

Welcome sorry to hear that about your son.. nice rifle though, I learned about gun safety from my grandpa's (Ranger and Navy officer) after my dad died. I started trap shooting in boy scouts and now try to shoot anything I can get my hands on. I paintballed during high school too but not as much anymore because of college and my BRD again welcome and let the lead fly.

as long they are taught how guns need respect I see no reason why a twelve year old to have that stuff I got my first gun when I was 13 a 20ga pump youth shotgun for trap shooting
as you can see my avatar is Halo yes I play video games and most kids do its not gonna turn them into the columbine shooters

Great looking rifle! I am sorry to hear about your oldest.... I hope that despite that you can get back into the sport of shooting and teach your younger son the love of it. You sound like you are a man on a mission. I wish you well

Thanks for the kind comments, this M4 is going to be for me. I was thinking of maybe a .22 upper or just getting one of the S&W 15-22 I saw when I was looking at mine that he and I can start him out plinking about once I find some more info about those. The uppers run about the same cost as one of those don't they? Probably should just get one of the 15-22 and not have to mess around changing it out.

I agree about all the games, movies and violence making kids less sensitive and more curious but hopefully with enough guidence from us about fantasy from reality they will go out into the world and make good decisions. What happend to our boy caught me off guard, because his shotgun was stored safely away in case and ammo separate but his friend (just turning 18) was curious and bought his own guns that week. Never had any experience around guns, father died year before and I guess his mom was just oblivious that he had loaded guns in the house... I am a nosey parent and proud of it about where you going, who with, who are they, what is this in your room, etc... just never saw it coming...

Welcome, and very sorry for your loss. Firearms are something to respect, not fear.
Good luck with everything
