Just got my first AR
i just picked up my first ar-15 yesterday, i have been hunting and shooting for about five years and i wanted something for fun to play around with, i picked up a DPMS Oracle, i know its not the best gun but for what ill be doing with it, it should be fine. im just looking for some tips or maby some aftermarket things to add, not here to have people bash me for not buying a gun for 1500.00 any help would be really appreacaited
what r u looking for? that would help

No bashing here, congrats on the new AR!
My first was an Olympic plinker back when they were cast and purple.
About a year after that I splurged for forged upper and lower, one of the most
accuarte weapons I've seen.
id like to change out the fore-grip for something with a rail system on it, i mounted a scope on it and it shoots nice with that, i was thinking about a diffrent stock because the one on it now isnt adjustable

It all depends on your budget... for a stock the magpul MOE is 50 buck and kicks butt. a rail well I don't think I wouldn't go cheap since you would just replace it probably down the road save your pennies for a daniel defense or a troy drop ins... if you want a FF rail you have to remove stuff gas block, FH, etc... but that sums that up.
im acctully thinking about trying to find a 6.8 spc complete upper for it to use deer hunting...any ideas?

presonally I would stick to the DPMS for awhile learn it and shoot the shit out of it. then when you want to build a 6.8 you can. once you buy an upper it won't stay an extra upper for long thats how the BRD starts

You aren't allowed to own adjustable stocks in NY. Its against the law unless you have a preban receiver. The first thing I think you should do is to become more familiar with your state laws so you don't do something illegal to get yourself in trouble. You also cannot own any magazine over ten round made after 1994.
also no flash hiders
Take a look at Troy's Alpha rail hand guards. When I built my first AR I went with a 12" YHM diamond quad rail (14.5" DPMS chrome lined barrel) thinking i was going to use all that space for gadgets and what not. It turned out to be a little too heavy for my liking so I swapped it out for a 9" Alpha rail, I'm very happy with it so far.
The trigger is another overlooked area when first getting into AR's. Most people want to put the money towards Magpul accessories and what not to make you gun look a lot cooler, I know that's what I did at first. You don't need to shell our $200+ for a geissele trigger to get good results, Im running a Nickel Boron coated Spikes Tactical trigger that I picked up for just under 60$. There is very little noticeable creep, the length of pull is shorter and much smother. If you put a set of JP reduced power springs you can get even better results (beware, the reduced power springs may not always have enough power for surplus ammo.)
And congratulations on your first AR
Congrats on the new purchase!
I am in the same boat as you with these ridiculous laws (I'm your neighbor in Massachusetts). The first thing I would do is familiarize yourself with the NY laws, TRUST ME! You don't want to possess anything illegal because it's law abiding citizens they like to make examples out of!!
Being a newbie to the AR family myself, I went with a Windham Weaponry and like BHouse said, shoot the hell out of this one first. That is what I am doing, but I also did a few mods too. You may want to look into a quad rail to add some accessories, perhaps an EOTech holographic. Of course you can add a foregrip, flashlight, etc.
If you really get into the platform and want to have some more "toys", I would look into buying a pre-ban lower receiver. If your laws are similar to Mass, you can have a collapsible stock, bayonet lug, flash hiders in different combos. Again, check your laws first to figure out what's legal.
As for this forum, these guys/gals are extremely friendly and don't bash us newbies!!

Why do you people live in oppressive states? I just don't get it. This is the beauty of what is left of our Republic. You have choices but instead you complain about the laws of your state. Either stand up for your rights or move. Before you know it, you will only be allowed to have a muzzle loader which must be under lock and key at all times.
