Area all Nickel Boron BCG's created equal?
Just finished watching a review of the Fail Zero BCG. Looks great. Soo I google nickel Boron BCG's and several companies pop up. So are there any long term reports on this coating? Are there any stand out manufacturers? Anything to help my M4 run more reliably is a plus. Thanks in advance for your comments.
Bump, I am wondering the same thing. I am thinking about sending a nickel-boron BCG in to get coated myself.

You're sending in a nickel-born BCG to get coated? Coated in what?

Ah...
I meant to say sending a regular BCG to get coated, likely sending it to WMD.
They run a little longer when your lube runs out. I have a few NiBo BCG's. They turn gold after thousands and thousands of rounds in F/A.
They do need lube though.
They will carbon up just like any other BCG and get draggy and slow.
Just a little longer before they do and slightly easier to clean.
FZ and ST I'd say are GTG. The R-Guns ones are way cheaper but until I see a review.....

Thanks for the feedback. So nickel boron is an improvement and not a miracle coating.

i have a spikes tactical NiB BCG its cool i like that its eaisier to clean up i have thousands and thousands of rounds through it and it has performed flawlessly but.....fwiw ill be buying a regular phosphated bcg in my next build
Paging Sinlesssorrow...

I've had a few bolts coated for me by WMD Guns am am happy with them - they have more of a matte finish. They also sell a NiB-X BCG (make sure to specify semi or full auto in the order) - gorgeous plating job on those, great finish. I'm running one in my 18" upper and am happy with it.
ETA...WMD Guns was started by former FZ employees. I've also used their salt bath nitrocarburizing services too. Great folks to deal with.

Thanks for your input. Why are you going back to phosphate?

because a proper bcg (daniel defense, spikes, bcm) operates just as well(filthy 14 comes to mind) and is over a 100 bucks cheaper then nib i feel like that money would be better spent anywhere else on the rifle..... im personally putting it towards a geissele s3g which was by far the best damn upgrade i had bought for my other ar i can flat out shoot the rifle straighter and faster because of that trigger
i'm not the expert but just to point out a few areas to research
i vaguely remember that there was an issue with the rings in the nickel boron bcgs, i think the remedy was to install nickel boron coated rings? - spikes has commented on this a few times that i've seen and i know that their bcg's are fully functional
also i think the rguns bcg's are good to go but the extractors need (as in appear weak, not sure of any failures) to be replaced, there should be a post or two in the aimsurplus forum about it

I've had quite a few NiB products. I've owned 4 different Spikes BCGs, 3 of the WMD ones, I had WMD coat my AR10 BCG (beautiful job), and I have some parts at WMD right now getting coated. I'm a fan of NiB done properly. I'm also a fan of chrome. Not a big fan of phosphate if I can help it.
I've said this before, but my phosphate AR10 BCG felt like I was dragging a ball and chain through sand. It now glides like butter in my MATEN upper. Huge difference. Less friction is a good thing. I will say, as far as gas rings are concerned, SinlessSorrow is the only person I've heard have issues. However, I could see, specifically with the Spikes BCGs, how they might get gummed up. The Spikes NiB felt like a much thicker gummy lacquer type coating. Super-slick, but if it's loaded with carbon and heat, I could see problems in the realm of possibilities, although I never had a single issue myself after many rounds. WMD's BCGs are a slightly different coating. Thinner and slightly less slick. FWIW
