Which LaRue?
OK, some more newbie help is needed please. My other thread had excellent info/responses in it and I am hoping for more!
I have narrowed my search for an AR down to LaRue. I took a few, ok, many peoples advice from my 'new to AR's' thread. Researched the company, read reviews, etc and I have decided to go with them. I want to place an order within a week...
I want a super high quality rifle that will last, hold its value and be accurate/dependable/etc.
Rifle will be used for general plinking, defense and SHTF if ever needed. (I have an EoTech XPS-2 for it already and have an avenue to pick up a nice variable power optic as well)
So...
Rifle will be 5.56 with a 16" tube.
PredatAR, PredatOBR, or OBR.
Thoughts/comments/suggestions/etc are more than welcomed and wanted.
Thanks again for the info and a great site!

For plinking and SHTF?
You can't go wrong with any of those.
I have a 16" LaRue Stealth and it's just a damn good gun.
The PredatAR is made to be lightweight for hunting, and general purpose with it's skeletonized hand guard.
The PredatOBR has the PredatAR frame but also has an OBR barrel.
I would just go with the PredatAR. It's all you will ever need.
do you know why you want a larue is the question i had too ask myself. i have owned a few larue mounts and i have a 12" rail i love but my gun isnt larue. i think larue is the gun i would get if i didnt already have a RRA and had the funds. but my reason is cause they make awesome products and top machine work. why do you want one not cause its the flavor of the month here it has too be more then just that.
Heh... And here I am wearing "Can't decide? Get both!" today.

PredatAR, one of the best rifles for the money you'll find. The only reason I don't have one is their 18" has a midlength gas system.
CM
I think the PredatAR is a better value dollar for dollar.

Yes, from what I have read and see of their products, they are a top notch company with an excellent reputation as well as a super quality build. (their machining/fit/finish looks beautiful) I am also fortunate enough that I have the funds for a 'higher end' rifle and after a few weeks of smoke coming out of my ears from the plethora of options out there, decided on LaRue.
Thanks everyone for your responses so far!
PredatAR unless you are going to get a supressor one day.
If you have the money and don't mind waiting, get a PredatOBR and order it TODAY! LaRue sent a email out saying that they are raising prices by 12.5% July 1. All backorders before then will honor the now price.
^^^^Thanks for the heads up. I just checked my email and received the same email stating that they will be having a price increase. Thanks!
PredatOBR for the adjustable gas system, better furniture and better trigger. Might as well get all the good stuff at that price point.
Go light - get the PredatAR.
if you wanna stay loyal to larue then grab the predetar
however sr15 is the way to go bud
i want them all...

I consider three rifles makers to be on par with each other, LaRue, Noveske, and KAC!
I choose LaRue cause of Mark's work with our troops and they are made in Texas. Not to mention the CS that comes with his products.

I would (and did) choose the PredatAR. I plan on doing a lot of hunting with it, and the saving in weight outweighs the possible loss of accuracy at long distances.
Also, by long distances, I mean >500 yds. I see no reason the lighter PredatAR barrel should have any issues closer in than that.

Smart man right thurr.
After many, many config's - I'm done lugging tanks around. Go one step shorter and one step lighter than you think you need.
Heavy is out, light is in.
Unless you're bench shooting at 1,000yd. steel via 7.62 - that's pretty much the only time I'd want heavy.
Whatever you decide on you better get that ordeer in quick before the rate hikes, 7.5-12.5% price increases.

OK, your thoughts on the PredatOBR vs the OBR? Same trigger and setup/furniture?
Thanks again to all who responded. The weight issue was a concern of mine, however I don't think I will be lugging it around all that much...if I do, well I guess I'm gonna have to suck it up, lol! I just liked the match barrel, the capabilities of the rifle,etc...
Thanks again and keep the resonses coming!

I like the PredatOBR better; I'm not fond of the raised 10 MOA rail on the OBR. It forces you to use non-standard height mounts or a comb riser, and I prefer my MOA built into the mount (like the LT112) so its optic specific rather than applied to everything I mount up.
^^^^Thank you!

Why is the reason for this?

PredatAR does not has PST (Port Selector Technology/adjustable gas)
I will probably start another thread later, but.....
I just ordered my LaRue PredatAR 5.56 this afternoon!!!!! I'm super excited and can't wait to get it. I will keep everyone up to date as well as post pics when I receive it. (wait time is estemated @ 14-16 weeks, possibly sooner, but I won't hold my breathe! lol)
Thanks to everyone on this forum who has helped me out with feedback and responses to my 'newb' questions!
