 REDHOT Barrels ?

How many continuous rounds fired does it take to make a 16" 5.56 AR15 barrel so hot it damages it?
Can a barrel really get to hot and ruin?
How many shots do you recommend before one needs to really let the barrel cool down?
Also will the shots usually hit higher with a redhot barrel?

At what rate of fire? That is the key to the answer...

Seven on burst. 60 rounds per minute

More on semi. Most I ran thru in semi was an army base with moving pop ups. Guy on my "holes" team, his weapon failed. I ran my rifle hard for the three minute test. 11 mags. We came in third in the company. It rainbowed my barrel. But the effect was cosmetic. Re oiling the barrel made it dissapear.

USMC

Red don't ruin it. White, or blue that's when rounds start coming out the side of the barrel.

I wonder what one of these would do for the thin barrel test. Eventually the gas tube will go but I wonder if it would save the barrel I also wonder how much weight compared to a heavy barrel is added.

I have one of those on my JP PSC-11. Works wonders here in AZ in the summer time,You can actually handle the barrel after 5 minutes, rather than waiting 15 min for it to cool down.

Can you provide more details pictures of fit and function on this?

As a 30yr IT hardware and software guy I understand fully the concept of heatsinks so this makes sense at least from a concept point of view. But heatsinks are truly an art form where some work much better than others. For the instal was any thermal paste used between heatsink and barrel?

I'm working on getting a new light weight barrel. I'm looking at one with a .600 profile under the barrel and then Lowes sells .025" copper sheets in their hobby section. I'm gunna dry and use that to make the .650 thermal disipator fit. Even if the heat sink isn't optimal, I think it will be far superior to no heat sink at all. My biggest question is weight and how it compares to a heavy barrel. I think the heat sink will keep the weight further back on the barrel as well as having better thermal properties.
