300 Blackout
I love everything I've read about the 300 cartidge. Seems like exactly what I need in a good close to medium range hog gun.
As far as hardware goes though, I don't really know much about em. Any opinions on upper receivers would be most appreciated. Looking for that pice/quality balance of course.
Thanks!
I have a friend that ordered a CMMG, pretty much based on price. It has been shipped but he has not gotten it yet. Give me a few days and I can post a review for you.
Build your own. I was skeptical about going into it since it was the first upper I assembled but it's just as easy as the lower and even after buying the right tools you will still save a couple hundred dollars (depending on your setup)

This would be my suggestion.
I had put several lowers together, but wanted to try my hand at an upper. So, after buying the tools, I tested putting an upper together on my 300blk project. I couldn't believe how simple it really was, and have now helped a few of my friends to put their uppers together too.
I use Mega receivers, for the price, their forged units can't be beat IMO. I have a few of their billets also, very nice.
+1 on building your own. Easy.
If you build your own, I like the WIlson Combat barrels for the price ($225-$250). Mine is easily sub-MOA with multiple loads and it didn't require any resizing of the gas ports to get working with subs. I feel they give top-tier quality for middle tier pricing. If going cheap on the build, get an Aero Precision upper from Surplus Arms and Ammo. BCG's are scarce now, but AIM Surplus had Spikes Tactical for $110 shipped. I have built several uppers with these components and have been pleased with the quality.
PSA, DSA and CMMG offer uppers cheap (some may not have the BCG and CH).
If going higher end, Noveske is a good bet.
Just about everything is back-ordered so patience is required to get what you want the first time.
Buffetdestroyer,
What Wilson barrel do you have Do you remember the gas port size?
Thanks,

+1 on the MEGA.
If you got the money buy a noveske lo-pro .300 AAC blackout sbr and suppress it. Put a 1-4 scope on it and you got a 0-200 yards hog gun. At least that's my dream gun anyways.

I got the Recon 16" from MidwayUSA (with C&R dealer discount it was $239). Mine is the 1 in 8 twist, but the new ones will be 1 in 7. I put a review there:

I didn't measure the gas port before putting everything together, but if you email Wilson Combat, they will tell you.
Thanks guys. I'm building a LR-308 upper right now. So I definitely am happy to build my own. I'll look around to see what I can find. Is the 300 built off of a 5.56 upper receiver?
Evething is the same as 5.56 except the barrel.
I would look at the Grendel/264LBC or 6.8 since they have better terminal performance and ammo availability at this time.
This is exactly what I am building, with the new NSR rail.

Yes, it uses a cut & formed .223 case.

If you go to Wilson's store they have a pdf of the schematics for each of the barrels on their respective pages.
That looks to be a .106" gas port.

So are you going to build or buy op?

I'll buy it from you when you get tired of it, just don't tell the NFA of course. lol jk. Congrats.
This is the one I have. http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/16-4-Rail-300-AAC-BLACKOUT-Upper-1711 Though I didn't pay that price either - got it on sale from a Texas GS.

If you already have an AR then all you have to do is stick on the lower you have - and buy some ammo and Optic/sights.

I'm trying to figure out what upper to canabalize when I finally find the right 9-12" Blackout barrel.
I initially went the 6.8 route, but haven't been able to find any ammo that isn't near or over $1/round.

LOL, I like to buy/sell/trade etc a lot. But now that I am going the (BS) NFA route, I imagine I will be married to the tools.
In my earlier post I said I was building an upper. I should have said buying an upper.
Mine is the Noveske LoPro, 8" barrel (likely 7 twist, as they are switching from 8 twist, from what I understand) with the new 7" NSR rail, MUR upper, and the latest gen Gunfighter charging handle.
I am in no rush, as I am awaiting my SBR stamp and AAC suppressor, but I still cant wait to get it. Even though I am likely just going to store it at a buddies house who has a bunch of SBR's. As fucking ignorant as that is.
CMMG 16" here that I bought exclusively for Alabama hogs. You'll love it!

Nanners83,

Again, thanks,
