Who has the best available repro Aluminum CAR stock?
I was reading over some old posts and after just acquiring a real Aluminum Colt CAR stock, I wanted to get a repro to use instead of the Colt stock. The Colt stock and buffer tube is just too nice and cost me too much to risk scratching its perfect finish. After reading some of the recent CAR stock posts and looking around, I was left wondering just who has the best currently available mil dimension repro CAR stock? Is it just Essential Arms, I called Tony's Custom Uppers and they said all of theirs are Commercial spec. Any help would be appreciated as I have already ordered one of NDS's two position mil dimension tubes and would like to get the best repro mil dimension stock. Thanks in advance for all replies.
best?...I think this is the ONLY one currently available

if you decide to order one...good luck, as they have the worst CS I've ever experienced
ETA: last I heard Essential didn't have anymore and Tony's ad says they're mil-spec:

unless just the tube is mil spec
Thanks, I called Tony's and they are currently out, but will have more soon. The lady said that all of theirs are commercial spec. I also called Essential Arms and they have some with 6 position mil spec tubes, but I still wonder if they are mil spec stocks or just mil spec tubes. They will not sell the smooth finish stocks without a tube.
EA stocks are mill spec fits my colt like a glove, and talk to the owner. I explained that i had an old colt i was restoring and just needed a stock as i already had a tube and he sold me one. they are top notch people imho.
and if you really want you could weld up the other 4 holes smooth it out and have it re finished for allot less than an original 2 position tube.

Or just leave the extension as is. Nobody will know it's other than a 2 position unless they remove the stock. Even extended all the way, it won't show.
And what's that slot in the back of the extension for?

Who is the owner? What name do I ask for?

I hope she is mistaken: I recently placed a backorder with Tony's for this particular stock, specifically because it is advertised as "mil spec." (Or, at least that's what's implied by their ad, unless they are in the habit of selling commercial-spec stocks with mil-spec tubes...hello rattle-city.

Are these already available? I still don't see them on the site.

I already had a backorder for some receivers and called in to ask when the two position tubes would ba availabe and they added them to my order. It sounded to me like they would be available when my order will ship (he said later this month).

I mentioned the add and she said it was text from their other add and that the aluminum stocks were all commercial spec, only the plastic ones were mil spec. This is why I did not order. I did ask if they would have some at the next gun show in my area and she said they should. I figured that I would get a first hand look then. It was confusing as I seem to remember reading in a post that they had some mil spec ones.
I didn't know Essential Arms still had those stocks. There is no question that theirs is the best replica if you can get one.
Top: Colt Bottom: EA

Yes, Essential Arms,,,,,, Krotz Spings Louisiana, My old stomping grounds. Excellent folks to deal with (down in the bayou). NOTE: they are powder coated, not vinyl acetate. Give em a call, they will definatly work with ya. This is an Essential Stock

Sherluk Marketing shows them in their SGN add. Worth a call.
here is mine from EA, just looks at home on an old colt
first is a close up
I ordered a stock from EA on Friday. The gentleman I spoke with was very polite. He said they had been having trouble sourcing receiver extensions in 2 and even 4 position. Most companies seem way too busy churning out back-ordered 6 position tubes to worry about producing archaic designs for a very limited market. They only have about 50 complete stocks (with the 4 position tube) on hand. They do make the stocks for both mil-spec and commercial diameter tubes. The complete units in inventory are commercial diameter.
He told me that they learned from an old Colt employee how the coatings used to be done on the stocks. He said powder coating basically superseded the old vinyl-acetate process as a way to accomplish the same thing (in function and appearance). EA experimented with this modern process, until it perfectly replicated the old finish. I think their efforts paid off and I'm glad we have them around to feed the retro BRD.
That being said, feel free to show them support and let them know we'd like to see them keep producing this product. If you want mil-spec tubes and will accept only a period-correct 2 position unit, tell them that too. They may have to up the price to reflect production costs, but the way I see it is this: If they keep producing them, recognize the significance of the (possibly underestimated) retro market demand, and focus on this product line with an interest in historical authenticity, then it'll be a win for everyone.
Thanks to VAAR's picture I finally see what the difference is with the sling loop (rounded on the Colt). Also, the ribs are really Fiberite features, are they not?
