Kinda off topic: retro upper fun.

This is not about a special retro upper 末 just one I put together for some fun. I originally wanted to use the upper to just shoot 22lr ammo since the barrel is a 1:12 chromed pencil barrel. Turns out my eyesight is worse than I thought and so I put one of those 4X clone scopes on the carry handle. It shot ok but was not as much fun as I hoped for so I figured I'd better run some centerfire down the bore to blow all the junk out 末 holy crap was that fun! The wind was really blowing that day from right to left and it still shot pretty good. The best part is the weight 末 When I first built the upper I could not believe how nice and light it was and as a full rifle it is a super field rifle. The picture below is the complete rifle and, as you can see, it's no retro job but it sure is nice to shoot. I added the clone scope after the picture was taken.
the upper receiver is something I got in a trade and had it stored away in a box.
The magazine is one of a bunch I got in the trade –– not any finish on any of them but they work just fine.
The barrel is a nothing fancy –– it's an FN contract barrel that was never used and I had that stored away also.
I got the handguards years ago only because I figured they would feel good in my hands but never used them till I put this upper together.
I built the upper to shoot 22lr ammo but with the wind blowing that day I could not get much accuracy out of it –– till I switched to the .223 ammo!

MAGPUL? You should be ashamed of yourself! Seriously though, MAGPUL? 
Shame on you. I'm sure we can come up with an A1 PG for you somewhere...other than that, welcome to the disease.

The lower it's on now actually has an old M16 butt stock without the trap door but it also has the Magpul pistol grip (I know –– I'll burn in hell). I forgot that I got a complete set of old funiture –– not just the handguard –– but for the life of me I have no idea what happened to the old A1 pistol grip. Another thing I need to be honest about is the fact that the original sling swivel was missing on the butt stock and I just filled the holes and refinished the butt stock (I guess I'll burn twice in hell). I know it's not correct –– not even close –– but it sure is fun to shoot!!!!!

Shoot it a little and accuracy should drastically improve with a new FN barrel. Wish I had a new FN barrel. Nice looking build and it sounds like you didn't break the bank either.

Looks like fun and don't kick yourself too hard. People here may give you crap for it but secretly they are all happy that you have left more retro parts out there for them
None of my "retros" are correct either but I like them just the same. Though none have Magpul stuff on them either.

I don't want to say this to loud but this forum seems to be the friendliest forum on this site. People here actually try to help out 末 I think because it's fun to hunt for the retro parts and putting them all back together –– and actually shooting them! I had all this stuff packed away but after I saw what you real retro-guys could do with the parts I decided mine needed to be put to use.

I actually got this stuff many years ago and it just sat in a storage box. Being retired for years kinda limits what I can buy now and I've noticed the price for these retro parts are now way out of my range –– so I kinda lucked out.
