 Another bronze/gold question

I have a grey worn through to gold charging handle, and it matches the gold GM upper I just got beautifully. It has the six dimples on the back and is exactly like my other GM assembly.

Anyways, I notices that besides the aluminum wearing through to gold, the latch is also the same shade of gold. It does not looks like it is painted to match either. How is it that a parkerized part turned gold? This perplexes me. Any thoughts or ideas would be great, thanks!!

You've been blessed by the Gods. I'm guessing some sort of transferance, like verdigris rubbing off on something. Just an idea, but I bet if you scrubbed it the latch would 'come clean'. (Obviously you don't want to do that.) Thanks for sharing the pics.

ETA: I'm wondering if the bronze could partly be transferance in the other direction - notice how barrels end up brown from use? part of that is oxidation, combined with wear - I'm thinking through multiple cleanings a rag could transfer minute amounts of coloration from the oxidation onto the aluminum, now mostly bare and a softer metal, it takes on some of the pigment. I need to ask my dad about this, see if it's possible. dissimiliar metals do crazy things.

I think its one of the parts that got the F-d up dye after being anodized. From my emails with Victor at US Anodizing I think the longer you anodize 7075 parts they will start to turn gold. (something like that) Some parts end up turning gold, some do not. I think that CH might be a good match for the upper BenC bought off the EE. I can't remember how many of these things you have now, but if that one is an extra I'll bet BenC might really like that one.

I've always thought that standard charging handle latches were anodized aluminum. I have one in my junk box separated from the CH I know for a fact is, are they not all aluminum?

I have a modern CH that has a parked steel latch, I guess I just assumed they were all steel. I took a magnet to the rest of my CH's, and they're all aluminum. Duh.

I guess that answers my question!

I've seen the gold on CH & older mags, but what's the deal with purple slip rings?
Crazy color for a slip ring don't ya think?
