Picked up the Colt Piston upper a few weeks ago. Got it to the range for maybe 50 rounds all is well with it. Still need to get some more trigger time behind the Piston Gun before i make a personal ruling against DI. I plan to take it upstate this weekend and play with her for a bit. Anyone else here have the Colt Piston gun?

Did you get a bare upper or a complete rifle?

Also pics!!

As far as the colt goes i hear its a great gun. The colt piston is probably the most developed piston AR-15 in history, they have been working and revising it since the 60's as technology has progressed.

How many of you are disappointed with the bolt carrier group? Its that hard to machine an integral strike face for the op rod? They managed to machine "ski's" in the rear.

do some research please........the 6940P is the updated Type-C that passed every SCAR trial SOCOM had, the only main difference is a stronger op rod and a different coating on the BCG. the bolt carrier is the exact same design today as it was back in the SCAR trials.

Close up of the bolt carrier group... the key is no longer screw in via the hex screw ala the standard carrier, the screws you see are merely a cover for what is a pressure fit pin underneath to keep the key from shearing off the carrier body.

also want to add Press-Fit pins are incredibly strong, alot of car pistons are held together with them, and we all know the workout a car piston gets

Interesting...

The press fit pin makes sense, but I still wonder why they use a two piece carrier instead of a one piece

im not sure, its certainly an interesting design for a piston gun....but hey when it works it works.

I actually plan to pick up a 6940Pwhen I can, itll be later this year sadly, probably the first piston gun ive been interested in.

if the 2pieces design is as strong & reliable as the 1piece,
it's cheaper and better choice cause they can use existing M4 carriers instead of adding a dedicated production line.

I just went off of pictures posted, of the bolt carrier. It appeared to be just normal gas key screws. Press fit pins are fine with me.

I came HERE, to do RESEARCH. Thanks for enlightening us.

Its all good.

Yep press fit pins with hex screws covering them, no way the key will get sheared off
