Had a good time yesterday testing the new CMMG magazines. I really enjoy these CMMG mags as they work great and are a hoot to shoot. They also work the BHOA and feed great. They come in a variety of sizes and are modular. Wrote more about it about them here:

The Evolution mags can't be appreciated until you actually handle one.
I was never a fan of the skeleton body but after getting a couple, they are built like a tank and should last a lifetime.
Adaptability that is only offered with these mags.
Change capacity, change length, change the look.
When all is up and running you will be able to buy "cores" to fit your needs with the one mag body and steel feed tower.
The 1 piece BHOA followers are so much better than the black two piece.

Why, you ask?

KISS

and cost - I already have the old ones and they work just fine. Not gonna buy new just to have new. Don't have or even want BHO.

Not legal advice, MHO, YMMV, etc.

I received the same set as pictured. Happy to hear that the mags work with the BHOA.
I noticed the spring pressure and wondered about that. Having the older mags without
steel feed lips, they don't even compare to these new mags. The new ones are heavy duty
for sure. Anything short of a tank running over them shouldn't damage them..

That is the beauty of it all. We have choices. I have the older style mags too and use them all the time. No reason to ditch them. I just like these as they have steel feed lips and they come apart very easily. They feel very good in the hand and are well made. I think they will last forever! Also CMMG will someday be selling all the parts so you can have different liners. The liners are all one piece which eliminate some problems with rough edges catching on the followers. So, while there is nothing wrong with the "classic" ones, these are a step forward in many ways. If one is shopping for new mags its hard for me not to consider these due to their versatility.

One other point. While some don't use the BHOA, and there is nothing wrong with that, if one dose use it these work better. The older style mag had to be sort of reversed engineered to make a BHOA function. There were complications in the design doing that. With the new mags the engineering was done from the blank sheet for this mag to function with the BHOA. The result of that was the BHOA works better and doesn't need nearly as heavy a spring as the older mag. This makes it function better AND be easier to load. Its a Win-Win.

Enjoy!

Not just steel feed lips. The whole feed tower is steel.

Sweet, the invoice for the new CMMG MP4-LEP .22 that I ordered last Monday says it comes with 1 25 round Evolution mag and I ordered a 10 round Evolution mag too. I also bought one 10 round and one 15 round BDM mag as well, should be good to go now.

Okay...I just had to do it to This is a slightly customized version where I did a little trimming on second set of long skins.

50rd Mag

BTW, it runs like a top
Ridiculous? Absolutely! Fun? Are you kidding?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Do these work with an older non-BHOA upper?

They do. The follower, without the BHOA installed, will hold the bolt back until the mag is dropped just like the green follower mags.

Check out the 1.45 minute mark, it shows how it works.

Just for fun I tried these with a Tac Sol upper to see what they would do. Guess what? They ran fine and held the bolt back on the last round just like the grey mags or the BDM's do. (of course, just like the other mags the bolt will go forward when you drop the mag but if you have been using the earlier mags or BDM's you expect this).

These magazines are just pure fun. They feel nice, they work great, and as the parts come out you will be able to mix and match them. Thank you CMMG for making something like "just a magazine" fun!

John,

Don't forget the old BHOA actuator tab should be swapped out for the new
2nd Generation type, which has a thicker, shorter, beveled engagement tab.

From my experience, older BHOA's and the new mags don't play well together.

Yeah Ted, I should get around to doing that. I am still using the older design and you are correct, the newer one would be better. Thanks for reminding me. Too many projects going on...I am busy with that new 300 BLK I built and some other projects. I spend a lot of time making brass for it. I need to focus......

Are the new 25rd mags still filling back orders or are they all caught up?

I thought the 25 rounders will work fine with the old BHOA,the smaller capacity 10 rounders will require the new BHOA..Is this true
