A pox on Federal for their stupid naming convention. I've given up trying to figure out what all that letter mumbo-jumbo means.

Copper with a tungsten powder/nylon core

It appears this is the failed tungsten/nylon version of 855 that was found to be toxic to the ground water.

Copper with a tungsten powder/nylon core

That seems like it would transfer a wonderfully effective amount on energy IN your target rather than through....

The new 'Green' barrel eater ammo is officially called M855A1. Different powder, different primer, same case, 3 part projectile, and it runs quite a bit hotter, which imparts the speed downrange. It also is very hard on barrels, as it pushes the chamber pressure from the 55K of M855 to a very stiff 63,000PSI chamber pressure. It is going to shorten some parts lifespan, and it WILL finish off quite a few rifles if it is used en masse. 63K is approaching the proof load pressure, ie MAX pressure.

What for? What does it do that M193 doesn't? Nothing. It's a failed Army project.

Is this like the M855A1 civilian sales designation?

The same as MK318 Mod 0 named AB49 for civilian use?

No, it's a completely different round than the M855A1

This reads to me like a lead free training round with the same POI of standard M855.

That is not what this stuff is. It is not M855A1... look at the picture, and you can see that.

What it probably is... is the tungsten/nylon core crap that ended up being more toxic and dangerous than plain lead, if you buy what DocGKR has to say about it. Personally, I wouldn't buy this crap.

I think this time it is definetly different then the standard XM855 as it specifically says "Lead Free Bullet". All the others just designate how it is boxed.

I just searched google and I dont know why its so hard to find, but there is a PDF about this stuff showing why it was cancelled because the core was toxic and ended up showing up in ground water.

All I can find... LINK

e Army is concerned enough about possible risks that it has stopped making the tungsten ammo. “The U.S. Army developed a lead-free 5.56mm round during the mid 1990s with a tungsten-nylon alternate slug materiel. Environmental studies later determined that the tungsten-nylon combo had a possible environmental impact. The Army stopped production of its tungsten-nylon 5.56mm [rounds]

ETA: FINALLY found the pdf....LINK
