Good clean .22 LR ammo for your rifle
What ammo do you use in your .22 rifle that's clean and reliable?
And if you had to use a .22 rifle for self-defense against people, what ammo would you use and why ( I know, never use .22 for self-defense )?
Heavy and slow, light and fast, HP, lead or jacketed, etc.?
This
CCI Tactical is the most accurate bulk I've found. It has a lot of wax on it, so you may have to clean your mags more.
#2 would be
Dynapoints. Almost as accurate with a hollow point. Probably my SD choice (if I had to ).
ETA: Part of the reason I would choose Dynapoints is that I can't remember ever having a dud.
For plinking I use whatever is cheap. If I really wanted to make an impression with a 22, I would use CCI Stingers.
Haven't tried them yet, but Aguila Super Max claims to be 1700+ fps.

But, that is not to say you have seen duds in the CCI Tactical is it?
So far, it has been very good for me too.
The "Aguila Super Max" as mentioned above works well for me. I would never use a .22 as a defense round but at least this has more than 100 foot lbs of energy.
Specs
Muzzle Velocity: 1750 fps
Muzzle Energy: 204 ft. lbs.

No, not one, and I don't expect to. But I haven't made it through the first box of them, and I've fired thousand of the dynapoints. I gave them the edge for SD also because they're hollow points. Not sure that would even be a good thing Probably not, now that I think about it.
One thing about the CCI Stingers, the manual for my 10/22 warned against them in their target barrels. I believe it was because they have a different case length.
I would probably use CCI stingers if I to use a 22 for defense. They are clean, hot, and I've never had a jam with one. 32gr, 1640fps, copper plated.
For plinking I settled on Federal bulk. Not one dud in the last 3 boxes, and only two or three I had to run through twice to make them go bang.
Self defense will always be a "use what's at hand" sort of thing, I just prefer to keep a bigger gun handy than a 22lr.
I always plink with CCI Blazers these days. $17.50 for 500, not the cleanest, but always super reliable.
For self defense with a 22 I would use CCI Velocitors, a 40grain plated HP going 1435 FPS.
Clean is never a term I've associated with .22 rimfire.
All of them seems dirty compared to centerfire ammo but some are less dirty than others.
Some of least dirty and most reliable in my opinion are CCI Stingers.
The dirtiest and least reliable has been Remington bulk pack then Winchester then Federal.
I'm currently shooting CCI Blazer 40gr in the 525 bulk pack. Ive shot a couple thousand in the last two months and all have gone bang.
It's not as clean as Stingers but not as dirty as Remington. YMMV
Thanks for the responses.
I'll try some of what's been recommended and see what my rifle like (HK MP5 SD.22).
CCI mini mags but they are not cheep.
I really like the Federal Automatch bulk I've had good luck with it and I also like the Winchester bulk like the 555,dynapoints etc
I have had bad luck with Remington too many duds and not very consistent
I have blown two cases with Agulia
CCI Minimags
Winchester Dynapoint
Federal bulk pack
These are all I shoot and are listed cleanest to dirtyest.
CCI MMs
They work in all my 22lrs, pistol or rifle. And are the cleanest except for match ammo, but match ammo is too expensive to buy for range plinking.
