Looking for feedback on this ammo. Found it in 55gr and 75gr 50rd box. I've been staying away from steel case ammo due to reports of how dirty it can be. According to the Hornady statement on the box their steel match is clean. Appreciate any feedback.

I haven't shot any yet, but from what I've read, shoot with confidence... Oh, and it's getting really hard to find now that folks realize how cheap it is.

It is my favorite ammo and i've shot 400 or 500 rounds in 3 gun and SRS matches. I get MOA with it with 2 rifles. It has good velocity, so I can use my same ballistic charts. I haven't noticed being dirty. This is good ammo. Not like dirty Russian steel case ammo.

So, somehow, Hornady Steel cases won't destroy your gun like Wolf Steel cases or Bear Steel cases? I love how the Steel haters all jump on a new poster when the ask about the animal brands, but when Hornady starts making it, the FUD evaporates...

Personally, I like steel ammo, but I cannot help but notice that the Horandy sponsored shooters [free ammo] are still shooting Hornady Brass, not Hornady Steel... One has to wonder why they aren;t using their "match" shooters to promote their "Steel Match" ammo...

If you clean your guns after each use like you're supposed to, you can shoot steel cased ammo without any problems, even if it doesn't say "Hornady" on it.

I first bought a thousand rounds of Hornady steel cased 55gr HP and found it to be the cleanest and most accurate ammo I've ever used in my AR, that I ordered another two thousand rounds today.
At $16.09 a box of fifty (Cheaper Than Dirt), it's a bargain. It shoots into penny sized groups at 100 yards.
It's not the steel cases that wear out the barrel, it's the bi-metal bullet (plated copper over steel jacket) in Russian ammo that causes the problem. Hornady uses a fully solid copper jacket.

Thanks for the feedback. Is there any truth to what I've read about steel case ammo affecting bolt, chamber or extractor? If no real worries here think I'll pick up a few boxes.

The steel in the bolt and the chamber are faaaaaaar harder than the steel in the casing. It's a load of bunk, buy as much as you want.

The only issue is that steel case is usually dirty (except for maybe golden tiger) and cakes the chamber in carbon after a couple hundred rounds.

And the steel in the barrel is also far harder than the very mild steel they use on the bullet jackets. Assuming one could reliably measure the "increased" barrel wear from shooting bi-metal (or even straight steel) jacketed bullets, one could also easily determine that the reduced cost of ammo would result in enough savings over the life of the barrel (tens of thousands of rounds of .223) to pay for another barrel.

And again, I say "clean your guns and this is not a problem."

I use a lot oh Hornady from distances 100 yards on out. 75 gr through a 1-8 Sabre Defense barrel. Can easily hit at 300 yards and if I work hard made hits at 500 yards. I also shoot a lot on Brow/Sliver/Gold Bear through this rifle and it is not that dirty. I clean it about every 300-400 rounds.
