what sling do you recommend
Looking to buy a sling for my AR. I have never used anything but a two point sling but am open to other options. The rifle I have on the way has QD mounts on the receiver as well as sling swivel. Which type of mount and sling do you prefer and why? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
I was a decent fan of the Magpul MS2 but hated the "thin-ness" of the webbing, and the release clip was easily opened and would dump the rifle....... Well then the Magpul MS3 came out, and Holy WOW, they fixed the problems with the first one, thicker comfortable webbing, and way nicer and more secure hardware with a nice locking mechanism.
I love the MS3 for those above reasons and:
- Easy to adjust.
- Can be used as a single point or two-point
- Works.

I'm really happy with my Viking Tactics VTAC slings
I love the BDS Tactical Enhanced dual sling.

This and the Vickers are the ones I run most. I bought the single point VTAC adapter and I can run it just like the Magpul..Use to use the MS2 for a while but after taking a 3 day/12 hour a day class, I found really quick how much I prefer a padded 2point sling.
Larue Tactical Padded Sling. Very nice, comfortable, easy to use... Kind of like boxers...

Oh, and Dillo Dust
Kool-Aid included!
Blue Force gear VCAS
+ 1 , I have one and it is very comfortable, easily adjusted, and feels very well made.
I like the BFG VCAS with QD swivels and an IWC 2-1 triglide.
I use VTAC padded on my rifles and carbines.
FWIW, it's the same sling as the Larue...

I was using boonie packer slings, very good value and very close to the Vtac sling. Cost is less than 20.00. I found the savvy sniper single/two point sling at a local gun show, and have since switched to it. Made by a veteran in Ohio, very small business, and it feels good to support someone local who makes a very good product.

ms2 works fine for me

I prefer the TUFF 1-or-2 point tactical sling. It's the best of both worlds.
It has positive attachment hooks with built-in covers to prevent sling loop noise.
You can get them for around $38.

+2 It has everything you want. 2 quick detach swivels and it has the regular one on the strap. It is also padded. Not bad for $69 and the aforementioned free dillo dust! (meat seasoning if you have never had it before)

Just curious, why specifically padded?

Thanks for this link. I've been looking for a sling that I can use as a 1 or 2 point but still has a push button QD. I would have tried an MS3 but I'm not willing to start tearing off staked castle nuts and end plates just use the Magpul.
So would you say QD is the way to go over traditional swivels? is there a sling that has both? also the Sig M400 only has QD mounts on the receiver, Since I dont (for the time being) have a hand guard with a rail what are my options for a QD in the front?

probably what i'll end up with
I picked up a 1 and a 2 point troy padded sling when they were on sale for like $14, not a fan of the pad and I like the 2 point but every course instructor so far has argued 1 point slings to the death
I have both the MS2 and the MS3 from Magpul. I prefer their latch mechanism for a QD approach that will work with/without gloves of different weights.
I also agree with the earlier poster. The MS3 is a significant improvement over the MS2.
i am not necessarily recommending this but i got a condor sling and it's actually pretty ok but was too damn long as most slings appear to be.
I had to remove a couple extra loops and connectors and extra bs so that it would fit comfortably when i use it wrapped around my support arm to aid in stability in shooting as a sling is intended not just a strap to hang your rifle on you with.
so let's talk about real functionality of a sling you should be able to have it strapped on you in either a 1 2 or 3 point configuration and quickly be able to loop your support arm through it and shoulder the rifle with the sling aiding your support arm.
mine comes close after modifying it but i think slings are a lot like grips you just gotta try a few different ones until you find the one that is a great fit for you.
Spec Ops Master Blaster...... Or a black silent sling.
I attach it to the stock with paracord, and like to use a m203 adapter on the front end.
I tried QD's and didnt like the 360 deg rotation
Tacstrap....you will not find a better sling at this price.

Booniepacker, end of story.
Quality made two point sling for $16 delivered with quick adjust, you can't go wrong. I took the liberty of adding a Maxpedition pad to it for more confort for an added $12, can't see spending the cash to try others at this point.
Love my MS3...yet to run into a Magpul product that isn't solid.
My Emdom Gunslinger sling has been great. Simple, versatile, and tough enough to have made it through a deployment. In conjunction with the Emdom URS attached to my body armor, it does everything I need a sling to do.
Gear Sector GS-2P. Multiple connection devices. Smooth and easy adjustment on the fly making transitions easier.

Same here! I love the seat belt webbing going over my shoulder.
Anyone have any experience with the Slap Plate from this company? I was looking at the Magpul ASAP but I'm thinking the extra loop in it would be annoying. The Slap Plate looks very clean and simple.
Spend the extra money and buy a Savy Sniper sling. You will never look back.

I have the Slap Plate on my 2 carbines and ordered another one for the build I'm getting together for my son.
I like them because nothing sticks out the side to poke you when shoulder slung.
One simple piece, nothing to come apart
I am not a high speed operator so others my have different ideas.

Tacstrap is just a distributor of the SLAP plate. ikickhippies.com is the actual maker.
I have one on my middy and one on my pistol build. I personally like that it is clean and simple. As I mentioned earlier I run an Emdom/MM Gunslinger sling. The SLAP plate is perfect for the sling's rear pigtail. One thing I did notice is that I have to apply quite a bit of force in order to fully collapse my ACS stock and then my sling webbing doesn't slide back and forth since it's wedged in between the SLAP and the stock. It isn't a much of a problem though since I run my stock on position 1 of my 6 position receiver extension.
It's a nice sling, but I found it a little bulky for quick use on fast parts of a carbine course. The transition point from padded area to regular webbing also rubbed my neck raw. I may go back to the narrow VTAC for that carbine.
On my AR pistol, the Troy single point is very nice.

I've never found anything I like better than my Boonie Packer 2P-TQA slings, and I have a bunch of them. (One per rifle.) I prefer the 1.25" version, and I mostly use them with a handguard mounted QD just in front of the Delta ring (IWC Micros or built-in) and a Noveske QD end plate. On carbines that have "traditional" furniture with a Fiberlite stock I use the M4 adapter Boonie Packer sells at the butt end.
I have my local shoe repair guy stitch a QD into the front for about $5 and I add an IWC tri-glide so I can go two point or single point. Great slings for a minimum price, US made too. I see the price went up a few bucks, but they're still under $20 delivered.

I must disagree, the MS-2 was a cluster of bad buckles self tangling easily frayed by velcro loud clanky disaster, otherwise it was great. MS-3 is a little better. I love the simplicity of Blue Force Gear 2 point adjustable or the VCAS.

I agree with this.
Padded VCAS, QD Swivels and Tri-glide.
The best two-point, single-point attachment sling setup IMHO.
I'll be the oddball... 2point adjustable paracord sling!
Magpul ms3 for single point.
Larue padded sling for 2 point.
I run an MS3 and just added in some padding from a spare pack I had laying around. MS3 and some padding is full of win!

Good idea. I was thinking about putting one of those seat belt pads on my ms3.

Yeah it works great. I love love love my MS3. I just couldn't wear it comfortably for more than a few hours without it killing my shoulder. So I just took a padded strap from the back of a spare assault pack and it hooked right in.. here's a pic, its somewhat hard to see but its the camo part on the underbody of it. I'm gonna look into some FDE colored pads to replace it soon. Will let you know what I come up with if you're interested.

i got the viking tactics padded sling in foliage green and am not dissapointed
I just finished an intense week long tactical rifle class at US Shooting Academy and ran the Magpul MS3. The MS3 gives you best of both worlds with the 1-point or 2-point options. The clasp Magpul used is very quick to hook on and take off and you can also lock it when it's on if you wish. The sling is also adjustable as well which is an added benefit. Since there are important times for use 1-point as well as 2-point I couldn't see running a sling without the quick option of having them both.MS3 is a very good sling.
I use the padded vtac the most, with an IKH slap plate, and love it. I added a set of mash hooks to one of them, and use it primarily.
I just bought a Savvy Sniper QUAD Sling from the recommendations in this thread. Thanks to all who mentioned it!

I use a old school plain jane M16 silent slings. Available at most surplus stores for under 6 bucks. Have them on my AR, bolt gun, shotgun, and 22. They do everything I need a sling to do. Im no longer in the Millitary, and Im not a tacticool hi speed/low drag operator doing carbine courses every other week. I expend 99% of my at ammo at the range, shooting at paper, and Id say I spend about 60% of that time shooting off the bench. I have them on there just in case, more than anything.
