I need a light for my carbine....
I need a light for my new colt. I cant really decide what light or how bright I want to get. I dont really want to spend more then $200.
Do you have a rail? If so look at the Streamlight TLR-1. Its a great durable light for the money.
how far/for what do you need to run your light in?
min i'd look to: 120 lumens on a rifle...
consider LED vs non, etc
If its a M4 carbine or other carbine with plastic handguards.
Streamlight Tactical M16/AR15 Long Gun Light Mount - 69902 $19.20
Streamlight TLR-1 LED Weaponlight $118.00
Drill, mount & its done. M4 handguards are a dime a dozen so dont worry about it.
Anothe option is to search EBAY or the EE for a Surefire 660, they can be had for under $124.
You can get a SureFire X300 for $200 delivered from
BrightFlashlights. He's a forum sponsor and both of my transactions with him have been perfect.
Surefire FTW

Can't go wrong with a Colt, and you can't go wrong with a SureFire.
But I am just a proud owner of both...

Inforce WML!
Surefire Scout or mini Scout with aftermarket mount.
Neither one of those fit the under 200 dollar tag in the OP.
I just sold my surefire x300s and went with all insight/eotech WL1s and couldnt be happier......extremely light, bright, the throw and beam in my opinion are better....and best of all uses AA batteries
I went with a TLR-1 on a MI FSB mount. It puts the switch right at my thumb with my normal grip and is plenty bright for in the house or yard which is as far as I am likely to ever need it. It also cost less than $200 for the light and mount.

I agree. The TLR-1 is an awesome light!

This was my first thought for the price point. You could even buy a second one for your handgun. You can usually find them right around 99 bucks.
I use a TLR-1s on my patrol rifle, mainly for the weight savings. The light is bright, but for 100+ yard shots in the dark you are probably going to want to spend a bit more for something with higher lumen output.
I also use a TLR-1s on my duty pistol. I haven't had problems with either light to this point.
IMHO, the TLR-1 isn't bright enough.
Check out the Klarus XT10 or XT11.

For a pistol or at very close range with a carbine. For distances out past 50 yards the TLR-1 really isn't bright enough.
YMMV
Surefire G2X Tactical with any mount is good. 200 lumens and a 2 hour run time.
Topic Moved
Elzetta ZFL M60 flashlight in any mount you prefer. I run mine in the Elzetta ZFH1500 mount for a high power, light weight combo that is pretty hard to beat at around $200. Plus it's all made in America.
I guess I should clarify what I want. I have a quadrail so mounting it wont be a problem. I also would do like 40 yards max. I just want something bright I could use in my house or back yard.
again––look into the Inforce WML

Surefire X300s are now less than $200 at many mail order places (check LA Police Gear).
For a small, lightweight, super bright light w/ a built-in removable rail mount, you won't get much better.
What type of flip open cap is on the light?
Start checking the EE for a good used M951 or Scout
