Noob ar build
So I bought a lower from rguns.net and actually had a good experience with them. I just couldn't find a lower for 250 with magpul furniture anywhere else. I got on gunbroker and found some pmags and a Spikes tactical s2-t2 tungsten buffer. That's all I have so far but I'm waiting for an m4 chrome lined upper from palmetto state armory with a 16" barrel. I just want a plinker so I didnt want to go all out on this one since it's my first. All I need now is a bcg and charging handle and I'll be set. I'm gonna get a local gunsmith to check headspacing of course before I fire it. You guys got any suggestions as far as bcg or any advice I'm all ears. Here's a pic of it's current state.
Edit: Is NiBx the way to go for a bcg or is it just the new hype?
Nice looking so far! Congrats on having a decent experience with RGuns, not all work out that smooth.
Thanks! That's what I've read all over the web. I just couldn't pass it up though for the price. I was going to buy an upper from them too, but I chickened out. My first ar was a dpms and I just didn;t like how it felt although it was a sweet shooter. I've learned alot over the past few months but I still consider myself a noob and probably will for a while. Hopefully since I"m registered now on here I can really start learning and become a reliable source for ar knowledge.
Welcome.

You will continue to feel this way until you realize that there is
always something new to learn. I built a new rifle completely by memory and I'm still learning new things every day.
You will learn more if you build your own upper assembly. The extra $100 or so in tooling that you need to build an upper will be worth it when you realize what you have learned about the rifle. Especially when you are on build #3 and wonder why you hadn't bought said tool in the first place.

Looks good so far...you're off to a good start. Post pics when you're done so we all can see the final product.

That makes sense. Building an upper still scares me but I might look into that for build #2. I might just build the whole thing! Thanks for the input!
And thanks guys ill definitely add some updates as it comes along. I'm ready to have a gun. Right now I only have half a gun even though the lower is considered a fiearm

I will be building from scratch my 2nd one. Already in the ordering process.
Looking good so far. And from what I have gathered the BCM BCG and CH is the way to go.
I have the mod 4 charging handle and I will be going with the BCG as well for 2nd build.
My 1st is a spikes I bought separate but have since tore it down and put it back together.
Thanks man, yeah I like the spikes lowers because they have the cool engraving on the side and the selector engravings look good. I'm pretty set on bcm for the bcg but I still cant decide on whether or not to do NiBx, or chrome or not yet. If I do Nibx it'll probably be a spikes.
Got my upper in finally!

A note on checking headspace first... make sure your gunsmith is "black rifle friendly" and knows what he is doing.
Personally I would clean it, lube it, function test, and then shoot the hell out of it as soon as possible.
Haha fit and function is great! she fires like a champ! Doesnt like cheap .223 ammo though. Doesnt cycle properly.

describe the cycling problems. it could just need a crane o ring and/or a macfarline gas ring. I had a problem cycling tula through my first build and those two things fixed my problem. both can be had for under $12.
It only does it with cheap .223 so far. I havent tried any good .223 yet, And it only does it every few rounds, it just cycles the bolt far enough back to eject the cartridge but not far enough to push the new round in. but a mag of 5.56 cycles just fine.
How much lube and what lube are you using on the bolt.
I use Mobil1 Syn and soak the Bolt and the rails on the carrier. You can feel the difference on a dry bolt vs a properly lubed on.
I just use a bit of rem oil, I dont soak it, its easier to clean and all the carbon residue doesnt turn to mud.
