barrel thread kit
hello, just wondering if any1 still rents out the 14mmx1 LH thread kit? have a 2000 sar1 i would like to use it on
thx
For what you pay rent one its easier to buy one.....I saw a site you purchased the die for under 30 bucks...
Yes, but you really need a TAT to ensure the threads are perpendicular to the crown...
It should come as a kit.
This might not be the right place to ask, but I have some questions about the threading process.
Now that I know there is a tool to keep the die perpendicular to the surface, how does the tapering of the die work? All the dies I have seen are tapered. If the dies are tapered, when they hit the front sight the threads would still be tapered. Do you see what I am getting at? Do you have to take the sight off? If so, how? Also, how do you install the little tit in the sight that keeps the compensator from threading off?
Thanks for any help
You turn the die over and thread the rest
oh.. yeah... ummmm so I swear im not retarded lol. so that fixes that, and you just buy the front sight with the plunger right?

Yep, though in some instances the existing sight base may already have the hole, then all you need is the detent and spring.
and, IME, it works well if you open your die up a bit (with the adjustment screw) so that it moves easily on the TAT. Make your first threading pass with this (tapered cut, flip and cut to FSB).
Then back the set screw out, and make your full-depth cut. Given the variation in tolerances on muzzle devices, I would advise checking fit with the wider cut, and seeing if you need to go deeper. Not a big deal, just nice finishing.
