AK barrel profile question is needed:
Gas port location and size for 5.56, 7.62x39 and 5.45 (if it is different). Please let me know the port diameter and it's location from the beginnning of the chaimber (pretty much from the chamber end of the barrel).
Thank you very much
Dmitry
No its not diffrent you have to determine where on the barrel it is with your gas block and some barrels come already drilled so what excatly is your question the hole should be .125 closest is 1/8 but if you want mm its 3.25
My question is just that: if barrel has NO gas port. Where do I drill it? How far from the chamber end of the barrel? What diameter should it be?
D
Very easy question to answer. But it's one you'll have to go to WeaponsGuild to get.

Damn, bud.....What's your problem? That's twice in less than 2 minutes I have seen you give the same dumb non-answer. You don't want to be helpful here, just stay away!

While there is a "theoretical" position for the gas port, probably the best way to do that is with the gas block in final installed position on the barrel. With a 45 deg. gas block, it is as simple as getting the proper sized drill ( I use one that fits the existing bore in the gas block), and then carefully drill your port. Use plenty of oil and drill slowly. You don't want to snap a drill bit!!
On a 90 degree block, a lot of them have a hole in the bottom. This usually corresponds to the location of the gas port in the upper surface. Install block into final position on barrel, mark barrel on bottom using this hole, remove block and transfer mark to top of barrel and drill. Again, I would use the same size drill that will fit through the gas block port bore.
Hope this is a slightly more responsive answer than you got from USCD.
Folks, no offense, but I need a SOLID NUMBER. I am installing a NON AK barrel without any gas ports into an AK. Where should I drill the gas port? What should be gas port diameter?
D
There is NO solid number that covers all. There are too many variants out there. And AK/non-AK barrel, should make no absolutely no difference. After all, it's just a dumb chunk of metal!

Post a pic of your gas block... You have to install the RSB then the gas tube and then press the gas block in leaving a little room to remove the gas tube and then make sure it's centered on the barrel then drill out the gas hole while you have a wood rowel in the bore..you can not just measure and mark and drill....It does not work out well that way.no if you want I can measure my new barrel and give you that number but I won't be at fault if your to far or to close,,,,ok center of hole from the front of the barrel on a 16 inch barrel is 4.65 in or 118.50 mm....Now it's up to you now from the center of the hand guard slot retainer to the center of the gas hole os 3.54 in or 90.0 mm
