Cleaning PSL-54C
I just picked up a Romamian PSL-54 rifle and couple of tin of corrosive 147gr czech ammo. What is the best way to clean this rifle after shooting that corrosive ammo. I've never delt with corrosive ammo before and I don't want to mess up this rifle.
Thanks -John O
wash bore, and internals ESPECIALLY THE GAS TUBE with soap and water.
then clean normally.
corrosive ammo uses primers that leave a salt residue in the gas system and bbl. the soap flushes it out.
Black powder guns or corrosive prime ammo HOT soapy water. and rinse in HOT water followed by your favorite oil.
another option is clean it for 3 days in a row with hoppes #9 like was done before non corrosive priming was invented.
Hey I forgot to mention this do not soak the chrome bore with hoppes or even leave it coated. The directions on the bottle say after cleaning with hoppes dry the bore witha patch or two then push a oiled patch through the bore.
How should I clean off the bolt (take it apart go just dip it) and the trigger group. This would be so much easier if it was my bottom folder AK. Then I could just throw it in the sink but this gun is huge. Also how should I get excess water out of the internals ,it would seem an air compressor is needed
Thanks- John O
dunk it and hit it with a scrub brush. then clean as normal. the bigest problem i have seen with mine is inside the gas tube. it seems to get the brunt of the crud and salts.
corrosive ammo is a bit over rated depending on where you live. the more humidity the more problem you may get from it. in arizona you likely wouldn't need to worry about it at all. here in alabama i see rust in about 2-3 days.
as for the water wipe it off best you can and just oil the heck out of it. it will run off and evaporate quickly.

HOT water as hot as you almost can't stand will evaporate pretty quickly.
10/1 Ballistol/Water.
Nothing works better.
I just picked up a couple of cans of Ballistol. I guess I'm ready to go range.
Thanks -John O
Be sure and cut some between 1/10 and 50/50 with water.
I mix some up in a gallon jug. You have to have the water for it to work.
Why do I need the two different ratios of ballistol/water mix ?
Thanks -John O
You don't.
Just make sure it is a minimum 50/50 and a maximum of 90/10 water to Ballistol for your cleaning mix.
Read the directions on the can.
I've got it now. I have a gallon jug and a spray bottle, and some cheap tupperware type containers to soak parts in..
Thanks-John O
Heavymetal, and TBS know their stuff. Its good advice.

Not according to the "experts" over at gunboards.
Then they aren't following the directions or are suffering with cranial-rectal inversion syndrome.
I once saw someone complain about Ballistol but they were running it straight. RTFD/RTFM people, it is printed right on the side of the can in plain english.
You gotta cut it for the cleaner mix. The water is essential for corrosive.

I flush the bolt, I never dissassemble it if it is working.

I don't. I've been using Ballistol for years and love the stuff.
Just make sure to use some sort of water based cleaner at first.
I usually spray down the barrel, muzzle brake and gas tube with Windex.
I let it sit for a couple hours (you don't have to) and then clean normally (very well).
To clean out the gas tube use a shotgun bore brush and a swap or rag.
To clean the muzzle brake use a .410 or so sized bore brush.
Use Blue Wonder Gun Cleaner. No soap and water required.

soad and water is a HELL of a lot cheaper

I agree –– I use Ballistol on all my rifles and pistols from Black rifles to Mil-surps. The stuff does a great job! It is mildly alkaline and neutralizes the corrosion and the acidity of bluing salts after reblue. Good lub too. (Phil S.)
