Issue? Cannot Remove Bolt Carrier Assembly IO AK47-c

Hello and thank you for reading this. My first AK arrived today, an Inter ordinance model from buds. Looks and feels great to me but I have a problem field stripping it.

I have read the manual, tutorials; videos etc. and believe I am competent.

When I slide the bolt assembly back it will not lift out. It does not matter how you try or tweak the position.

Advice from you oh knowledgeable ones is appreciated.

did you take the spring out first?

There is a notch to the rear, a little forward of the most rearward position. Pull it back, line up the notch, and pull up. Sometimes it helps to rock it a little.

Nevermind, got beat to it.

Im following the SOP to the letter and this thing will not lift out. Rocking, moving slightly forward (as stated in manual), twisiting, and pulling up hard do nothing to free the assembly.

Should i try to pry the damn thing up with ~25 foot pounds?

No, walk away from it and look at it tomorrow. If you still can't get it, then have an AK guy take a look at it.

Do not pry it! They come out with no force at all.

Good advice, thank you. Its not likely that this thing will be jammed for life is it?

It's not jammed now, is it? The bolt moves freely?

Somebody put it in there, so it can come out the same way.

Unless the lower lacks the cutouts, and they put the bolt in, then riveted the rear trunnion in place. (I've never heard of that happening)

Compare it side by side with another AK, and you will see where the cutouts are, and how it's supposed to come out.

Post something in your Home Town Forum, or go to the local gun store.

Did you google a field strip video yet? maybe that will help.

Oh yeah, I watched it done and see the slots. Everything seems right, it just won't come out. Is it cause it's brand new?

Could it be hanging up on the hammer a little bit?

That happened to me once and - no kidding - I tossed it away in disgust across the carpet. When it landed, the bolt carrier group bounced free.

^ that sounds like where I was headed last night. I do think that is tight on the hammer. There is alot of contact with the assembly and every part of the gun has very tight tolerances. I did hold the hammer assembly down with my left hand while trying to pull the bolt carrier up with the right. This did not help liberate the bolt assembly and leave me will a warm fuzzy.

I am very pleased with it for the $350 buds was selling them for on wednesday but may have to get a replacement from Io

I am gonna ignore it until the third or forth range trip. Is that a bad idea and is the hammer contact fact an issue/resolvable?

You could ignore it for years. Maybe even forever. It's not a problem for the hammer to ride along the bottom of the bolt carrier.

Well sure it is a work it hard weapon. But won't I need clean the bolt and gas piston often? Can't do that well without getting the bolt assembly off. I'll post some pics soon. Thanks for all the replies and please check back on this one. I'm OCD about my new toys

Hmm, that is odd.

It doesn't look like it's hanging up on the hammer at all. And what I meant by it hanging up is that the hammer is a kind of hump that you have to get past to get the carrier far enough back in order to take it out.

But it's going far enough back, it should come out.

Hmm....

^ I'm hoping I can correct this with the help of this group, which has been great. . Don't wanna deal with a return but if you guys think that's the smart move, I am good with that.

Typing on the iPhone is the reason for my incoherent posts.

Have you been able to compare it to another AK yet? If you look at it carefully, you will be able to see where the rail is hanging up. You can probably polish the offending area so it doesn't hang up anymore.

Did you get it figured out? I am curious as I can't see anything obvious from the video.

On my yugo I built I had to rebuild my receiver because I cut the notches to big originally. Now mine is hard to get in and out, but I have to do a slight twist with the charging handle, slightly twist up and pull out. To put in charging handle up and twist back in.

There is nothing wrong with yours, dont expect the bolt carrier to just pull straight up, try a slight twist with upwards force, but not to much to bend the rails. If it would drop out, then it could bounce up and get jammed during firing, thats what mine did originally when I cut it out.

I made a video of mine
It was hard to do with one hand, usually I can do it fast, but you can see I can hold it by the bolt and it doesnt just lift out, I have to slightly twist to get out.

Thanks for all ofthe replies. The guys at IO told me to knock it out with a rubber mallet. I'm gonna put a few hundred rounds through it then give it a go.

My friends AK took me awhile to disassemble for cleaning when he bought it. The bolt was doing the same thing as yours. Re-installing was even harder. There was two things that I think were causing this. One was that the receiver was warped front to back like someone grabbed each trunnion and tried to wring it out like a towel. The other I think was a small bulge in the top guide rail. I polished the carrier and bolt and it made it better. It still isn't as easy to take apart as it should be, but it helped.

Wow, that looks frustrating as all hell. Please keep us updated cause I'm super interested. Every AK I own or have handled always feels a bit different in fit and snugness but that's just crazy. And I thought getting the dust cover off my SGL31 was a pain in the a$$. Sorry about the problem. Hope it gets remedied through firing it. Good luck.

That's weird. Never a problem with anything I ever owned. Did experience something similar once at a gun shop though. Made the mistake of taking a bolt assembly out of a Romanaian last year came out fine. 3 of us then spent a half an hour trying to get it back in . We finally manged to but had to use a rubber mallet and smack it back in .
